Default Getting better sound and bass out of 6x9s

I've been seeing that some people are complaining that even with upgraded 6x9's bass is terrible. I have Infinity Reference 6x9s and I can't get a nice bass sound out of them. I'm thinking it's the ported enclosure.

I'd like some opinions on how it would sound if I sealed the port and filled it with some loose poly batting. I understand that's pretty common in home subs.

The easiest fix is to add a "basslink" powered sub

well yes and no. The rear speakers sound bad so fixing that would be ideal. That and I road course so I'm not putting any more weight into the car.

I'm no expert, but why not grab some duct tape and give it a shot? Worst case it won't work and you can pull the tape off the plastic, right?

Are you powering the speakers through an amp? Do you have the pre-out adjusted correctly? Do you have the crossover and bass amplification all configured?

What are you using for a head unit?

If you get a good head unit with a highpass and low pass filter you can designate which wavelengths are played by what speaker groups allowing the speakers best able to play whatever wavelength to have just that wavelength and not have any inteference (trying to play everything).

I have 2 tens in the back with r tweets, two 6.5's and two 6x9's. Letting it just play is one thing, getting in there and messing around with the EQ is a night and day difference with the low pass going for the subs and high pass going for the other speakers.

I have a Pioneer DEH-770P headunit and a Pioneer 480W 4channel amp powering the rear 6x9s. I've fiddled with the highpass and lowpass stuff but the problem is either the speakers suck or the enclosures aren't right for the speakers. I'm pretty sure that people here are running powered Infinity ref 6x9s and I've never heard of issues.

The biggest reason is the enclosure for them is tiny and flimsy. The only thing you can really do is re-enforce the stock enclosure with some fiberglass/sound deadening, also seal up the back side of it where it sits against the metal with some silicone, and plug those horribly tuned tiny ports.

It will help a little, but its not going to be a huge difference.

ditch the 6x9s and go with some fiberglass pods for 6.5s or 8" midbass
