I didnt have to remove the spare or the lid, its actually kinda easy to remove the box, just 2 quick clips and removing it. Its heavy as hell but yea it can be removed in an emergency situation with one person, trust me not fun but possible. I can upload pics if anyone is interested in my design.

id like to see pics of that box. i was thinking of doing the same thing for a Fi BTL 12 that i have. i also have a mmats 15 that i thought of putting there too but id like to see how your box is. anyways heres a pic of one that i made for 2 kicker 12s sealed. sounded decent but now im running 1 diamond audio 12 that sounds alot better SQ wise.

also to the OP heres something that might help you design your box and it makes the calculations easier. its helped me a few times.

So I'm on Infinity's subwoofer page and come across their specs for the 850W (8" sub):

Infinity Reference 850w - 200W rms/800W peak
30 ~ 400 Hz

Now check this out... They call for a ported box of .6 cubic feet. That's a box roughly 11"x11"x12". The port is a 2.5" tube that is 8 13/16" long for a tuned box of 40Hz. Small box for our cars!

Before you go and diss the 8" sub, has anyone heard the Logitech Z-2300? (about the same size)

The Logitech subs use TangBand drivers. More specifically the the W8-670Q. For 8" subs you can't beat the value of the TB's.

Most car audio subwoofers are overpriced. If you know what to look for in quality drivers you can find some real gems for a lot less in other places. Also check out the Dayton DVC series.

Parts Express:Tang Band W8-740P 8" Subwoofer

This placed in the corner of the trunk, 2 cu ft tuned to 32Hz with at least 250 watts of clean power will easily handle it's own against most 10's.

I've compared it to the Kenwood Excelon DB 10+ and Kicker S10L54 and the 8 was easily my favorite.
