Hey, I havent mounted the GPS yet, im still wrapping a few things up on that. I ran the backup wire to the reverse lights in the back. I cant take any pictures right now, im back at college and its track season so i can only make it home a every once in a while between track meets. But, if you go on that AVIC411 website, you can find everything you need. Locating the VSS wire is actually pretty easy. and basically just run the wire they give you for the backup indicator to the reverse lights and ur set. I cant remember off the top of my head which is the VSS but i believe its pinout #85 on the ECU. Its on AVIC411. Sorry im not more helpful right now. Its just hard to make it back home. If i can get a chance to make it back this week ill shoot ya a few pictures.

FINALLY! Someone has figured it out. If your running amplifiers ,,pioneer is one of the WORST decks to use for the preamp section. They are very weak. Put them up against an eclipse on the same speaker and and amp setup and you will see how poor pioneer stacks up. Alpine and eclipse Have the best measured sound quality and highest preout section (vs the brands)

I love my Alpine but this D3 is sweet. I’m waiting for someone to start offering a unit with Sirius Traffic Updates so I don’t have to take out an XM subscription just for that. Simple solution when using a weak Pioneer unit, just go buy a decent preout amplifier, Alpine used to make a really nice one but I don’t know much about this stuff anymore, not big into the car audio thing anymore.

I have the AVIC-D3 in my 93 SL. It fits, but the opening on the trim ring is a little bigger. The headunit comes with a flat black ring that fits around it, loosly, which covers everything. But I plan to make a new trim ring for it.
The current crutchfield deal is much better than when I bought mine. I had to pay $999 for the head unit alone, then buy the Bluetooth and XM tuners separately. Then there's the Ipod cable, the steering wheel control relay, etc. I mounted the GPS antenna center of the dash, right up at the front against the windshield. It blends in really well, then you can just route the wire along the window/dash to the passenger door, behind the glovebox, and into the rear of the stereo comparment. The mic for the bluetooth I have clipped into the sunroof cover clip. Wiring tucked behind the trim panels all the way down and around. I also picked up a plain jane AM/FM Ford stereo off ebay for $10. Took off the faceplate (4 screws) and it fits perfectly over the Pioneer, making the car look unapealing to stereo thieves. |

I'll try to get you a pic tomorrow. The Ford faceplate doesn't look good.....but thats the point. I could do a better job on it, I just haven't had time. I didn't mess with a Pioneer remote at all, I just bought the little relay kit that lets you use the stock steering wheel controls. It's not made by Pioneer, but I'm pretty sure it will show up under "Accessories" when you are on the AVIC-D3 page at crutchfield.
Yes I have both the bluetooth and XM Nav Traffic modules. The bluetooth is nice, provided you have a cell phone that supports object push. Mine doesn't, it only supports the headset profile. Still works, but there is no way to load contacts into the unit, thus there is no caller ID or speed dial list. It's rather annoying that they did it that way. The XM, in my opinion, is a waste of money. It sounds like absolute sh*t. And the Nav Traffic - atleast here in Austin, is a complete joke. |
