I have replaced my alternator twice within this month. It has been fine untill I got my audio system installed in it. I have a 110 amp alternator... I think my sound system is killing it though. I have the Memphis Bell Amp 1100 watts... Since I got it installed correctly I have had my alternator fail twice now... took about 2 - 3 weeks for it too go out each time after the install. I'm getting it fixed again today and am going to disconnect my sound system... but wana make sure thats what is killing it. Is it to much power for the alternator or is it something else? If it is too much power where can I get a bigger alternator from?

That memphis belle is a 5 channel amp if I recall correctly, with the fifth channel being a mono subwoofer channel. That said it will probably draw a good amount of amperage. I do think its odd that your alternator would go out in 2-3 weeks though. I had abused my stock alt (90amp sohc model) with a stereo for about 3 years before I finally blew it up. I went through 4 or 5 underhood batteries in that time though (alternator couldnt keep up so started drawing from battery and eventually killed it).
I now have a 200amp high output alternator from excessive amperage (Excessive Amperage - High output alternators by C.S.A.) Lately people have had some problems with Nate, the owner of said company however I dealt with him a couple years ago now and he was very kind, knowledgeable, and kept me up to date on my order. My friend just bought a HO alt from him a few months ago for his mazda and he had 0 problems also. its worth looking into I think. It ran me like $350 just so you know what you might be getting into. Nice piece of equipment btw (memphis belle). Good luck! Michael

i tried the excessive amperage alternators and they came DOA. he charged me $380 initially. then i had to pay $25 to ship back to him once. then another $25 to ship back after the second DOA. i just installed a mechman alternator and it works flawlessly. Unlike other companies that use stock parts and do a custom rewind, mechman makes their own alternators with high heat components and sends them with installed adapters that allow the stock bracket to bolt on. cost was $450 shipped, but at least it came working and with a better 1 year warranty vs. excessive's 3 month warranty. it also took him 1 month to get the alternator done whereas mechman finished in a week.
here's a product review a friend posted with pix: MechMan Alternators on another note, i'm running the Memphis Belle 16-MCH1300 and prior to my HO alternator, it would only occasionally dip when i had some heavy bass going. the alt was a bosch alt i installed back in Dec 07. with the new alternator, i can't get the voltage to drop past 13.8 at idle with massive bass going. if the system is really killing your alternator, you should consider a good battery, upgrading grounds and power wires, and retuning the gain on your amp.
