Default Alpine spx-17 ref vs. Polk momo mmc6500 vs. Kappa perfect 6.1

Hello to the community. I am in the process of replacing my great 8 year old pioneer premier door speakers with some decent components. I have been researching for the last 2 months on different component sets. Going from store to store to personally listen to the $900.00 sets to the $300.00 sets. After much research I've brought it down to a few sets. Mid bass, power and Bang for buck was what i kept in mind..With that being said it came down to infinity kappa perfect 6.1, Boston acoustic pro 60, Polk audio momo mmc6500 and last but not least the alpine spx-17 ref, i was also impressed with the diamond audio d661a's. But the first 4 are my choices..Leaning more to the alpine spx-17 ref.

Now after all that researching i naturally had to do the same here on the forums regarding opinions on clearance issues custom fitting and ease of installation. Sad to say from my searches not to many people here actually bought the sets im looking at. I was hoping to keep the stock grill and not do much modification. From what i researched so far i see that our doors can actually take 6.75' speakers without the plastic basket. Please correct me if I am wrong. I also noticed some members here had a depth clearance of 2.5 and some cleared 2.7. I understand I have to respect the clearance room or the window going to it's full down position will be impossible. So looking at the 4 choices i broke it down to three.

I'm trying to figure out what's going to fit and clear with minimal cutting and modification? I want to keep the stock door grill. I am leaning towards the alpine spx-17 ref as they had excellent midbass and were almost as clear and bright as the kappa's for me. The bostons were awesome and sounded like minature subs..Also great but not that much difference to pay the extra $ in my opnion. Thank you so much for reading and for your time guys.

Ray.

Yeah I been leaning towards alpine or boston but i'm a bit uneasy of the mounting clearance. Hopefully I can get some audiophiles to give me some recommendations.

I personally like a smooth and laid back high end, with punchy mid bass and an extended low end instead of punchy bass.

My favorite affordable sets are the Diamond Audio C6, Pioneer Premiere series.

The best and not so affordable would be the Alpine F#1's and the Seas PS165's.

Have fun

Looks like the Alpine are 75w Alpine Electronics of America, Inc. - SPX-17REF

Keep in mind. They just don't sound the same in the car too. Especially when underpowered. Don't forget; The doors need inner and outer soundproofing with a dampening pad in back of the mid.

We've had a 91,2,3,5,7,&9 3k's & Been around long enough to know who posted the depth... and it's wrong, all will fit fairly easily. All will need the spider grill pulled from the door grills just use a side cutter and then trim the infinity emblem pins if you have them. I've installed some 7" D971's and the grills still fit and the speakers would have cleared without any mounting surface. They just needed a mounting surface to mount them securely.

My hearing loss is significant and it takes out the ability to hear highs correctly. So my tastes differ.

I'm not a polk fan at all and the bostons I've heard were short on the bass. They haven’t made 661's for a few years. The 661's I was lucky enough to get already in the car I really liked, but they were the older eaton version. Infinity is infinity. I haven't heard the alpine yet. I have a set of DLS Ultimate I never installed. Mostly because I wanted to try 200w/ch up front and the bass a 7 inch would possibly give I put the 971's in.

ALso DJ was selling focals for a good price.

But i never game them a chance. I noticed u mentioned the alpines only have 75w and they soind diff. in the vehicle. Did u mean you think there a little weak in terms of power?

Thanks
