Thumbs up The 30 minute upgrade your amp wire mod with pics.

The 30 minute upgrade your amp wire mod with pics.

Well you know the same old story upgrade the amp upgrade the power wires. The amp I’m (playing with this time) upgrading to has an un regulated power supply so the more you give it the more you get. So this time the run distance was made shorter using the right side grommet along with thicker wire. I had seen it before (the right grommet) and thought naa it’s too much work, but did it out of necessity this time.

I’ve done a lot of fishing in the past. “using a smaller wire, pipe, string, or even ribbon tape in tight quarters with the goal of pulling back what you want in place. The ribbon tape and pipe were used for Natural Gas and Electric or Communication installs. Usually for something bigger or not ridged enough to push forward.

Mitsu has a great pic with both grommet locations in it. See pic 1. When you finally see the right side grommet many use the left side because it’s in the open, and using the right side could require removing the battery. I was damned if I was going to pull the battery and loose all the memory (ECU with a piggyback, DCCC, Radio…)

I have a fishing apparatus which is nothing more than two coat hangers with an overhand wrap joining them in the middle. In the 3k it has been used to install gauges, tweeters, digital climate control, a homelink compass, temperature, auto dim mirror with maplights, amp and speaker wiring and even wiring for the aa spoiler. Oh did I mention unlock the car?

Step one was remove the battery hold down and move the battery over.
Step two to bend the fish wire to the area where it was going so it would puncture the grommet straight on and follow that path to where you could get some tape on it and pull the wire back.
Step three push the fish wire and locate it inside then get it in position to tape the bigger amp wire on to pull it back.
Step four was to tape the amp wire to the fish wire and another wire to be in place for the next time I wanted to pull something thru the grommet.

Picture 4 the new amp power wire and a purple wire capable of pulling in the next projects wires
Picture 5 the wires on the other side after fishing them thru the grommet.
Picture 6 a piece of wire loom was placed over the amp wire for abrasion resistance and the wire pulled back into position.

Because the amp is still going under the seat. The seat was pulled and the wire was run thru the plastic protective channel in the rocker under the door sill. The JL E6450 amp size is 17.7”L x 9.25” W x 2.36 H . The width and height are maxed at this point. The amp sticks out from the back of the seat a lot but no one ever sits there. Although a piece of cardboard would temporarily protect it if needed. Keep in mind that this is heat sink area so covering the amp for extended high volume listening is not recommended.

Next on the list is a new sealed battery and terminals. There was no point in upgrading the terminals until the battery is replaced with a sealed one to eliminate a corrosion source for the new terminals, wires and polished parts.

Total time about 30 min for the power connections.

One thing I forgot to mention. Don't get the cheap amp wire kits from ebay. They can actually be off a gauge size or two. LOL

The third wire installed was KnuKonceptz. It's hard to find some who under rated their product. Welcome To The KnuKonceptz Online Store

The double pair speaker wire was great for the rear mounted crossovers.

It's also on ebay too.

wow, i didnt think an amp could fit under the seats. I ran my power wire through the right side of the firewall, under and through the center, under the carpet and backseat to the back.

There I brought the wire up through the carpet. All i did was drill holes in the carpet and lead the wires up through them to the capacitors, and back down under the carpet to the amps. Looks sick. Sorry no pics now I will try and post them tonight sometime, I actually have to put in the 6.5's and tweets in my car today.

Very interesting mount under the seat tho, how does it do under there, can you slide your seat forward and back without seeing it?

The first amp (Diamond) was barely visable from the rear. But this one is. It is not visable up front. The rear seat in the car is useless anyway.

How did you bolt down the amp? I do not want to drill holes on the underside of my car. If I have to do that to put the amp there, I'll just let it float, or I'll bolt it to the back of the rear seat or in the trunk.

I would never let an amp float. Too much can go wrong. I'm sure there's a good seal thru the two layers of sound deadening under the amp. You have to check 93's space. They have less space under the seats than 94 plus. Probably because they put the infinity amps there starting in 94.
