Default Getrag Rebuild Manual - 5 and 6 speed models

After years of searching and many weeks of translation work, I am now proud to provide the first complete Getrag W5MG1/W6MG1 rebuild manual for our cars.

This book was translated from the original MMC Japanese language service manual by myself, with assistance from several 3SI members.

I've provided both the unedited Japanese book and the translated US book. In addition to the service specifications to the transaxle I've included the DaimlerChrysler transfer case recall information.

Original Japanese manual

http://xtreme3s.net/images/Getrag/Bo...rag%20book.pdf

Translated US manual

3S_AWD_trans_service_manual.pdf

PLEASE understand that I have taken every effort to ensure an accurate translation, but I cannot guarantee the perfect accuracy of this book! It is presented as a guide only and you should NOT attempt this work unless you have a thorough understanding of what you're doing!

Also, please let me know if you find any errors. I can very easily update the book if needed. I'd like to hear any and all feedback you may have to offer.

I downloaded the english edition twice as a double check. If you try to access page 34 or higher, the pdf crashes hard.

I had no problem reading the whole thing, using Acrobat Reader 6.0.

Thank you for providing this valuable resource that is available nowhere else. I already rebuilt my transmission, but I will read through it to make sure I didn't miss anything.

OK, I upgraded to Reader 7.0 and it works. So it is safe to assume that Windows version 5.0 is incompatible with the document.

Not to be a ninny or anything, but on section 22-46 Part G, it says, "Apply gear oil gear oil to the faces of the friction ring."

Outstanding rebuild manual (and translation!) Gate. I must say that I'm extremely thankful for this invaluable resource!! That, and I won't have to bug Bret Brinkmann so much. I didn't do a complete reuild (VCU, output shaft, and oil seals) because it's barely got 80k on it and was driven like a baby, but when the time comes for synchros and bearings, I'm sure I'll be thanking you for this manual. Thanks again!

Take care,
- Dmitry

I'm glad you like it. I'll make a note to fix that in the 2nd edition

(I am eventually planning to re-format the transfer case section so it looks as nice as the rest of the book. But it's not a priority)

I've got to give a lot of credit to Bret. He did a tremendous amount of legwork getting us information before we had a resource like this.

Also doesn't work with Reader 6.0 for windows (and for some reason when I click update in the software, it doesn't detect version 7.0, but it is on the adobe site...). Anyway, I'm getting 7.0 now.

Thanks for translating this, this is awesome!
