Are these HP increases roughfly the same # or the same % for SOHC vs DOHC (165hp vs 222hp)?

my 91 had 191k on the clock when i decided to do a rebuild. it was burnin about 2 qts per oil change and it was about time for a rebuild. one thing i did notice was a significant power boost after the rebuild so if your considering it you may want to still consider it. also note having a brand new engine under the hood is amazing.

i did'nt get a chance to go through all 28 pages so if i'm repeating a lot of stuff bare with me. I believe 300+ whp is wihtin our reach but it takes a major overhaul and a big budget. these are the steps i plan to take.

1.intake
1b.full intake up grade- port out the throttle body, plenum (over size butterfly plates) , lower intake, and port and pollish heads, over size intake valves.
2.exhaust.
2b. over sive exhaust valves - full lentgh headers tested and tuned for my application - test pipe - and strait through all the way back after that. ( i might even go with true dual if i think i'll see a better gain)

oh no i got to go i'll finish this later, sorry

300whp?? You can work on your intake/exhaust all you want, but that's not happening without FI. My goal is also 300fwhp, but that's with RIPP's SDS.

hey, with enough money, you could make anything work. it will cost him at least 10 times more than going the forced induction route, but it is possible..

i have run into so many people who want to go the NA 300+ hp route, then a month or so later when i talk to them they always say, "yea, im puting turbos on her"

Savage is here with me now and he doesnt debate the fact that it is going to be VERY expensive. I have talked to him about it A LOT and he is VERY determined to do this without turbos, supercharger, or the bottle...DONT KNOW WHY! But he wants to be NA really really badly. Power to him and he also knows that it will take more work than a good exhaust setup. He will have to stroke the motor and bump compression...both of which he knows and I am sure he will be adding to his list later. And yeah I have thought the same as well for 300+ HP all motor. Not cost effective, but it would be cool to say that you did it.

I am thinknig 3.5 liter MIVEC motor out of Japan from the Diamante VRX over there. maybe in the distant future.

He didn't say 300hp, he said 300whp!! which translates to ~400hp at the crank (with a 25% loss)... Still think it's possible?

i put down 195 FWHP with basically only intake/exhaust/tranny upgrades

i think 300 FWHP is well within grasp, just going to cost a pretty penny

im building up one of the most built N/A engines to date and im "hopin" for 275 at the crank which i believe is def possible from this setup. heres whats in the engine

pampena motorsports port/polished heads
enalrged valves
high tension valve springs and retainers
street spec cams (i think ray is going with DR but im not 100% on that)
all the normal intake toys (k&n, stainless pipe)
possibly ported lower intake depending on cash flow...if not now in the future
aem ems w/ MAP (will replace the intake track eventually once its in...this is the last phase after the engine is in under the stock ecu)

im hopin that with the aem and everything fully dyno tuned that i should be able to get a significant amount of power out of my engine. im sure ill go turbo eventually but for now im staying N/A

ok i'm back

2b. (cont) also port exhaust ports on heads.
3.cams- these are a very important part of an n/a setup. also i dont know if many companies have really done the right amount of testing on these so when i get to these i'll have to start from square one. but in the end i'm sure it'll be some grazy profile leaving me with a f##ked up idle
4. high compression pistons- prolly 11.5:1 or 12:1. i dont know yet ,its still up for debate if gains would be worth the loss of daily driving.
5. over bore- prolly go with the largest size out 92-93mm pistons.

those are the major changes to the engine that i think will yeald the most gains.

list of supporting mods

1. 360cc injectors-stock vr4
2. vr4 fuel pump
3. fuel rails and upgraded fuel lines
4. safc
5. msd coils
6. cam gears
7. one hell of a test and tune, plus all the other stuff i forgot at this time
8. time line 1-2 years ( i'm broke as hell )
9. budget = $15,000 damn!!!!!!!!!! N/A bitches
