Here Is The Pic.the only spot that was a pain was where the egr and plenum stay bracket are. I found that if you insert the tool and then pull it back a hair you get the extra compression you need,it also helped to work the tool up and down a few times to really get the spring down.hope this helps

Hi Guys,
Is there anyone that will replace VSS on DOHC for a reasonable price. At one time I saw a post from someone would do it this way for around $300.00 in the Dallas area but can't seem to find that thread. I need this done (for a reasonable amount) in the Ark, La., Texas area. Thanks! Tim '92 3000GT DOHC that embarrasses the crap out of me in a drive through as it puts up a smoke screen... |

I see this thread has not been talked in for a while. I was wondering if anybody had one of those tools that was being talked about on ebay. seems its not sold anymore. i need to do my VSS pretty bad and wanted it to be as easy as possible. also has anybody looked into this the snap on tool "GA318A"?
heres a link to it: GA318A, Tool, Overhead Valve theres also a vid of a guy using it on you tube. looks pretty simple (if you have your head out haha) which is why i was hoping somebody had that ebay tool or the other tool that Skunkworks made. |

Well im all done with my valves and belt/waterpump/pullys change. as far as the toughness of it all, ide say the hardest part was tearing the side apart to put the t-belt on. thanks for all the info and ideas, made the job alot easier! me and my cuz ended up taking the hood off and making a tool with a mix between the first and second versions on here. just a pipe with the "window" area cut wider like the second tool (no leverage, just pushed down on them and used a magnet to grab the keepers. then pushed down on the valve and used sergical snips to put the keepers back in. very fast and easy job. good luck to all the other guys willing to go on this adventure. very good for your experience points!
Edit: Well bad news , after replacing my VSS she smokes more then usual now. i did everything very carefully too, timing is dead on. is there some kind of period of time where they have to "wear in" or something? it dosnt seem like it should but this is my first time replacing VSS. when i start the car i will have "safe zone" oil pressure. after driving around for about 5 minutes and letting it idle it will drop to around 3 bars from the very bottom of the gauge, under the safe zone. and i know enough for that to not be a good thing. i have not very much smoke at idle but when i take off ill have a trail of blue following me for a minute untill the pressure builds up. My car is the base model , no turbos. 95 DOHC. using castrol gtx 10w40, Any help would be appreciated. as im kinda confused at the moment. Oh and i did a compression test on all cylinders and they all are exactly the same actually above 155psi a little bit. Last edited by Thrashpipe : 05-31-2008 at 01:41 PM. Reason: VSS gone bad. |

2. Is it smoking ll the time? How many miles have you put on engine? (Give it at least 50 miles to burn off all of the oil from assembly.) Clint

well, as far as the miles i have put on it since , i would have to say around 250. When i first start it up in the morning i will not have (as much) smoke as when its operating temp. the stock gauge will be up in about the middle of the entire gauge and stay there at idle. but after i have driven it around about 10 minutes, at a light the stock pressure gauge will read about 3 bars from the very bottom of the gauge. and if i was to rev it ide probably smoke everybody out of their cars.
I know its not something that would probably help and ill hate myself for being stupid and trying it but ill try an oil change to mobil1 20w 50 and see if it helps. currently there is new oil (that sat all winter) castrol GTX 10W 30, and i hear that sucks for our cars because of viscosity. if not , well, then my car loses its engine privileges ![]() |
