your better off with a speed converter one that solders in just above the speed sensor on the tranny, how the limiter works is from the signal it gets from the speed sensor so if the sensore is showing 200km/h it cuts the engine. the converter recalculates this and sends the signal in mph instead so the whole system reads as normal except its reading it slower. it also fixes the cruise control.
the unit is a simple chip with 4 wires sprouting from it 2 in 2 out it sits inline with the speed sensor wiring and costs £19 off ebay. no need to snip ecu wires and you're speedo will start to read in mph. its the cheapest and most effective fix

You have the wrong idea about fuel cut. Its not actually fuel cut. The injectors stay open and it safely prevents you from making power.

If that fuel pump cut off at 120mph at 6+K rpms you would be in the wanted section looking for a motor.

btw i cut the wire and it worked fine with my 91 JDM ECU on my FWD TT.

Were you really getting speed cut before clipping the wire? I do not hit a speed limiter, what model are you? 92RT uses a mechanical speeddo and i have had i above 135 since the jdm tt ecu went in. Is it pulling a signal from somewhere else? Maybe I actually have euro spec and not jap?

I'll try and find out more for you but for now, i know it was deffinitly stopping me at 120mph.

being fwdTT i used the JDM ECU, JDM harness, on the JDM motor, with the JDM 5spd tranny, and im pretty sure it was an electronic speedo not mechanical. (I might be wrong b/c ive only delt with 1 type and not the other) Obviously some parts are identical but maybe that will aid you somehow.

Ahh HA! If you changed out the harness what was why. I am using the JDM TT ECU on a stock NA harness, I have no speed sensor on the tranny.

Sounds like a good idea I'll have to look into that. Does it work on all models?
