Now that you've dissasembled the display, is it possible to change the illumination color of the buttons (if I'm not mistaken, there should only be 2 bulbs)? Would you recommend LED's or just colored bulbs?

Did you use a regular piece of plexiglass to replace the purple lens? Anything I should take into consideration while doing this?

Thanks.
thanks, for the illumination color i changed it to blue leds, leds are directional as opposed to a regualr bulb which glows in all directions, so what i did was put 4 leds in each side, so 8 leds total to light it, it was a pain but it looks really nice.
as far as the piece i replced the purple with, it was a flat piece plastic from the packing of a set of monster cable rca cables. i basically took the plastic and tinted it using window tint film. i did this as opposed to plexiglasss because this thin plastic was easier to bend to fit the curve of the screen. it turned out really nice, and it looks so much better than the purple

I did that same conversion to my 93 Diamante with a 94 digital, it seems I didnt need the control box, just plugged right in to the original harness, good job man for do that trick, I was trying to upgrade to a 97 unit, and the number of pins was way over.

Thumbs up

Awesome job, man. I'm always glad when someone steps in and does something major like this. I asked about this a long time ago and got flooded with the standard flames of "it can't be done", "don't even try it", etc etc. Glad to see someone proved otherwise.

So about 4 hours to get the parts. How long for the install?
Is everything working well? Any other advice?

To help in wire removal from main harness it is easier to cut any wires not needed out of the way to aid in pulling the wires you need. Make sure you pull the dash in the donor car. Keep all screws.

Edit:10/31:
don't forget;center motor linkage connector is needed all others ok
4 hours laying out harness on floor and labeling plug ID #'s on controler and display. Then figuring out where all cut wires went, and marking them (where from and where to) for ease of install.
Note; wiring diagram wrong. Common connection not shown for interior, air inlet, and air thermo sensors, that also connect to pin4 of left and center motors all connecting to pin 60 c-49 on the ac control unit. This connection was found in the harness.
Also some diagrams have ecu connector c-90 having pins 1-12 instead of 51-62.
Run a new ground wire for all ground connections #10 or #12.
You can pull the blower motor power wire and the high blower relay ground from the existing plugs and put them in the new plugs. The power transistor needs a new ground.
Both Lighting power wires are in the old heater control plugs along with the switched power wire.
The battery backup power may be found in the radio plug.
Use the power transistor screws to mount the left motor using a 1/4 socket & swivel.
For the interior temp sensor you can use a heavy wire to fish the wire thru most of the headliner to avoid clip problems

Install time 8 hrs.

Edit;9/17/05 It is easier to cut the entire upper the harness out of the car from the speedometer to the firewall on the outside of the wiring going to the climate control parts. Then cut it apart at home. Only very the first one was cut apart in the car. The pic shows the mess created when the harness is cut apart in the car the blue lines show where to cut it.

Damn! Good job Dave57. 8 hours to install huh? I think I've clocked upwards of 20 hours (had all the parts since July) and still can't get any power to the system. I think I'll have to try your tips that you posted though...

Have any other tips on getting power to the system? I thought I had everything hooked up the 5 times I tried but no power ever got to the system/display. Once again great job completing this conversion and thanks for the helpful hints and pics!

You can get power from pin 8 on the old blower switch plug. That wire goes back to the ignition switch.
Power goes to pin 116 and 108 on connector c51 at the ac controll unit.

Climate Control Conversion #2
One different color wire on the compressor controller.
Connection to ECU confusion. Every thing works great.

hey what wire did u connect the ecu wire to? the wire form the controller was blue with an orange stripe, what color did u connect to on the ecu, and did it make any difference by having it connected?
i did the conversion and i just never connected the wire, seems to work fine without it.
