I finally got my brakes... Is all that grinding totally necessary, or is just the grinding on the top vital? I'll be doing this saturday...

Yeah, when I looked at the inside of the wheel I saw what you're talking about, the thing gets narrower and narrower. I did the conversion over the weekend, finally got them done earlier today. I actually had a little rubbing on the front left caliper. I thought I'd ground that enough... apparently not. Anyway, it was very slight, but it got worse under hard braking. It did more or less go away though... Under hard braking it still rubs... I'll have to grind it down a bit if it doesn't completely go away. That's annoying though, after all this painting and everything. Oh well. Thanks for the writeup, it helped give me the courage to do this.

I thought that stock 17" wheels cleared the 2nd gen calipers fine. Especially given that '94's and the spyder tt's used the stock 17x8.5" wheels.

Am I missing something or read it wrong?

Any 2g wheel can fit the 2g cars. The 1g TT wheels can NOT. They have different offsets/spacing that allow to fit or not fit.

Im sorry bro but I object. I have R/T 16" rims and they arent even close to fitting the front 1st gen TT brakes!!!!! Wrong story unless you did some mods!

Yeah, in case you needed a second opinion, second gen calipers will just definetely not fit on 16" rims. With a few hours of grinding I got mine to fit on my 17" rims, but you can't even see the gap; I have about 1mm of clearence. You'd have to grind another 1/2 inch off to fit in a 16" rim, and there simply isn't enough extra material on the caliper to grind off another 1/2 inch.

I am just curious, if using a 5mm spacer on first gen wheels if there would be much of a difference on how much needs ground off, or if they would clear without grinding?
