I bought a Spec stage 3 plus Fidanza flywheel about 4 months ago. The car's making just under 400bhp, and was only used for weekend driving - no drag racing. Pulled away hard at lights - unusual for me, and the clutch plate welded itself to the flywheel ;-) Just had it apart, and the clutch is toast, so I think listing it as holding over 500lb ft is a bit optimistic ;-) It'd probably be ok if it was in a standard car. Good feel, light, but not much good for modest levels of tune, in my view...

When maTT had a SPEC stage 2 and DR650s it would hold anything under 22psi. At or above that it would spin. It would be fine if he droped the boost down though. He swapped it out for a SPEC 3 and it held (and still is holding) every thing he could through at it. It sounds like either you got a faulty clutch, a questionable install, or some thing leaking on it. I have heard of the pressure plate bolts backing out. That would cause the holding force of the clutch to be reduced. Did you check to see if that happened when you replaced it?

Although the engine is capable of much more power - just had it rebuilt with all forged internals etc, I'll probably turn the boost back down to standard for now and see how it goes. If it cooks again, I'll put a standard clutch and the original flywheel back in. I'm trying to get the time to work on my trackday (kit) car, so I can live with losing 120bhp if it means it's reliable ;-) |

Top of the pedal? That isn't right. Either the disk got warped/bent during the install or the slave cylinder needed to be bled. I know from personal experience that if you rough house the tranny onto the engine, then your disk will get damaged, usually resulting in the clutch engauging/disengauging high in the pedal travel. If it doesn't grab in the middle of the pedal travel or close to it, then some thing is wrong.
