Default Review: SANER awd sway bars from 3SX

My first impression of these products was poor as when they were sitting on my doorstep, the swaybars had busted out of the box and the powdercoating was CHIPPING off. If you know much about powdercoat, when done correctly it is durable and would gouge before chipping. I alerted 3SX to this problem and they were very friendly about it.

After taking them to a local powdercoating business and having them re-done (gloss black, my favorite color - read cheap$) I set about isntalling them. The rear bar is very straight forward and install was relatively simple although the linkage left a little extra friendly slack to be desired, the fit was VERY tight. After re-installing my subframe I found that when the suspension is unloaded the linkage actually HITS the bolts holding the rear axles to the coupling hubs. This is garbage and should have been figured out in the R&D department at Saner before these bars were released. Other than that, everything on the rear bar was OK.

The front bar's installation left a little to be desired as well insofar as the old stock brackets were squared in the corners allowing the bolts to fit. The new brackets are poorly made and rounded therefore after spending 9128349 hours trying to get them aligned and all 4 supplied bolts started, they were pushed by the bolt's heads as the bolts were tightened. I consider this more piss poor engineering by saner as anyone mega concerned with precision suspension geometry would have a helluva time getting the bar 100% squared off. The front linkage is a little better than the rears, although the components seem to have been assembled from the bargain bin in the basement of a hardware store.

Final assment:

The handling of the car is recockulously improved now however, and on "sport" mode the suspension handles incredible. With new tie-rod ends and the poly bushings in my front control arms, the car stays flat and turns in incredibly. "Emergency lane change" maneuvers on the street resulted in at 45mph a ~13 foot max distance (EDIT: this was done on very sticky tires)(yes I tested, I am a geek) to be stable in the next lane over - basically for your nose to be in your lane, to your nose being completely in the lane over with the whole car behind it. The car stays FLAT going through curved on-off ramps or around corners, which will be much better on tirewear overall.

I REALLY like the improved performance, but will have to work something out with the rear bar before all my rear axle bolts are sheard off.

After driving for a day and getting an alignment I found the rear sway bar is VERY close to my CFDS (ACPT one piece) under suspension load. Under cornering load it has actually rubbed on the driveshaft, however ACPT put a VERY durable coating on their product which has resulted in the powdercoat AND metal to be taken off the sway bar. If this wear progresses I will go in there with an angle grinder and to some precision grinding to prevent wear on my driveshaft. If I have to grind more than 1/4in into the bar, it will be removed as this is not acceptable, and the benefits of a CFDS far outweigh oversized, crap engineered swaybars.

I'm curious if it would hit anywhere on one of the older ACPT shafts.

TurboTension- Please email me some pictures of what you are running into at Steve@3SXPerformance.com I have had mine on my car for 4 years and do not have the same issues and we have quite a few sets out there.
Also send me what the diameter is of the new ACPT 1 piece driveshaft (it may be too big of diameter (we ran into that issue with an aluminum 1 piece driveshaft we developed several years ago). I run the PST 1 piece on my own car.

Thanks,
Steve

no problemo, I am going to jack up the car tomorrow and I will take some pictures of what I am talking about. With the driveshaft the wear is easy to see but not to gauge as when the suspension is unloaded the swaybar is no where near the driveshaft.

IIRC, wraith had similar problems in the rear as well.

I had the same issues with my PST CFDS and Saner rear bar. I actually called 3sx to let them know about it and also ask them if they had noticed something like this on a customers cars and how they solved it. I think the guy I talked to on the phone thought I was a jerk and wasn't really that interested because I wasn't their customer. I only did it because maybe I could save them the grief from a future customer and maybe I could get some understanding if mine was installed wrong or it was indeed a mismatched parts problem.
Luckily, I realized the issue immediately because I heard the noises from the linkage hitting the axle bolts and investigated further. I removed the driveshaft and sent it out to get repaired and I put the stocker back on. I have not solved the issue, but the stocker also touches the Saner bar just slightly. Its all shiny in a band that goes around the stock DS right under where the sway bar sits. When my car had the PST in, I could only put two pieces of paper btwn the two with the weight on the rear, so I have not put it back yet. This happened to me in March 2003
