Thumbs down Projectolight H4 4x6 housing

Never, ever, ever under any circumstance buy this.. I'm sure Mag18 would agree with me after reading his posts on hidplanet.com (too bad I bought them already and tried them, ouch).

I have the techone hid kit, and got these from matrixracing.com (luckily i didn't pay the 3sxperformance.com price) because that would make me even more unhappy.

GLARE, GLARE, GLARE - I've never seen so much glare - projector? bullshit.. More like a flat piece of glass... made to do what? CREATE GLARE! That's all it does as far as I can tell, it's just TERRIBLE.

I HATE THESE!

DO NOT BUY ANYTHING MADE BY PROJECTOLIGHT! PLEASE! ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION TO A 1G HID INSTALL!

I hope people who are contemplating buying these find this thread first, oh God, please.. put that money back in your pocket! Go buy some ice cream, a couple cases of Mobil 1, anything, just not "projectolights".

You know why nobody says "projectolights" in their ad for these lights? Because.. projectolight sucks - if you find a "projector" H4 4x6 housing... it's 99% chance it's projectolight.. ask first.

Okay, I'm done - I'm so pissed.

these the same brand that 3sx sells?

What housings did you get? I noticed they sell 3 types of housings? Are they all bad?

Yes, that is what 3sx sells.

I got the "projector" style. The diamondcut is equally bad from what I have read. Just avoid these altogether and get some Siverstars or if you're doing a HID conversion on a 1G, do a retrofit.. or atleast get some Hella housings instead of these.

I regret ever buying an aftermarket HID kit, as well as projector housings (which aren't really, just crap).

http://www.hidplanet.com has a lot of good suggestions and shows a lot of retrofits - unfortunately pop-ups provide the least room and make it near impossible. I'm thinking about doing the 99 front end conversion and just screw the pop-ups.

For the time being I'm going to try to retrofit some beamer HID's though, or some ECE Golf HID's into the way overpriced "projector housings" - they're getting chopped before this weekend. I haven't checked back clearance though so it might not even be possible.

So is the aftermarket hid kit decent? Or is it the housings that just screw everything up?

Aftermarket HID kits are generally lower quality to OEM quality kits, except lifetime of ballasts are not equal. Kit Ballasts can last anywhere from a few months to a year, OEM generally provides much longer life. Also, kits usually include generic bulbs, but the standard of the bulb is the same.. you'll get less light, more light, etc - what I am referring to as being BAD in these housings.. is it's ability to:

1) reduce glare
2) direct light
3) cost for what you get

With a halogen bulb, these will put out less light on the road and more light in other peoples eyes.

Did you ever get your HID straightened out? Try anything? ie. casper shield, diffuser of any sort, etc?

I took my highbeam out, it's just a single screw holding it in... couldn't hurt just for a test atleast - I have my casper shields ordered, waiting on them - I'll let you know how it goes.
