The problem with doing high and low beams with HID's is that HID's need to "warm up" (we've all seen this when first switching 'em on). HID's aren't meant to be flashed on and off and doing so shortens the life of them by a lot.

Think about it, if every time you flipped on your brights, you needed to wait for it to warm up, you might not get the bright light you need in time.

I just run HID lo-beams and Silverstar Ultra hi-beams. It works really nicely, and it's cool to see the white-difference.

I've had the same HID's from ebay for about a year now. They work great. I had the 7000k ones(I believe) and i thought it was too blue. But it does look nice.

Not Necessarily I work on Audi's for a living, and all the new A4's A'6s A8's and Q7's Have HID High Beams, I havent really looked into it, but i believe the Ballast is warmed up before the light is on, then when you hit the dimmer switch it closes the circuit on the opposite side of ballast (closer to to the bulb) and the Light switches on

----BTW i read this review and went out and bought them, Very happy! I got em for the Fogs since i dont drive with the headlights on much, but one of my headlights recently went out, so i got the Projector Pop up conversions (h4's) and going to order the top side HIDS next Had em a week, so far no problems *knock on wood*

Those are also OEM, Audi has probably designed it to work properly (or is a bixenon unit which uses one hid bulb and a reflector to make it aim hi/lo) What I'm talking about is more about a car that is non-hid going to hid, specifically ones like the 2nd gen 3/S's that use 2 projector beams. Bixenon is a different story with the reflector and all.

Agreed! I Do like the Silverstar/HID mix that you have going on I feel thats a better way to go anyway :-)

So Im going to do an H4 conversion with the HIDs, How will the High Beam work with that sitiation?

I assume that uses a bixenon setup because of the single sealed beam that's oem.

Damn this is a good price if the unit really does walk the walk. I have a set of McCulloch 8000K's and I'm really unhappy with the amount of light they put out. Do these guys make a 4300K or 5000K kit?

I just bought & am in the process of installing the 9006 low beam, 9005 high beam and H3 fog lights, all 8000k for a delivered price of $201. I have a 94 VR4 with 99 front end conversion where I re-used the 94 fog lights & made a custom mounting bracket. The H3 bulb fits in the fog light housing OK (it's a little tight since the back end is longer than an H3 halogen bulb), but I had to cut off the connectors to fit it through the housing hole & re-use the housing rubber boot. I may have to take off the bumper skin to mount the ballasts. I haven't tried them at night yet, and if I think they are too blue they will sell replacement bulbs in 6000k or 4300k for $15 each.

I'll try to take some pictures & post them.

Yes, they have a 4300K kit. I have the 6000K and still working great. The ballasts are from Japan. The bulbs are most likely China. It's the same kit you see on EBay from others. You can compare the ballast pictures. These are freakin' bright!

Hey Jim, Can't wait to see the pictures.
