The project has finally begun to take place. I am turboing my 98 SOHC. I originally was going nitrous and headers, but my buddy decided to make up all the piping i would need for a case of beer so who could refuse that?
I will be using a single Holset HX35 that I am picking up this weekend. It is off of a 2002 Cummins Turbo diesel and plan to run right around 8-10 pounds of boost. I will be running a SAFCII for tuning and a wideband. I plan to run a smaller front mount, possibly something off of an SRT-4 and then have everything else custom fabbed by my buddy for the down pipe and manifold. I will post pics as the project moves along. This sat pics will be up of the turbo. Cant wait. Hoping to be close to 300 to the wheels.

turbo will be mounted over the front half of the tranny and the down pipe will go down in front of the tranny and then go over to creat my exhaust. With the tt injectors and and all that honestly i talked to a buddy of mine said that 10-12psi is acheivable with out breaking anything and he thought some where around the 320 range so I cant wait to get this thing rolling.

Good luck with the conversion man. Take it from a guy who is at the end of one, it is not easy and not cheap. I was gonna mount my turbo over the tranny as you described but did not want to run the risk of melting everything (Heater Hoses, Shifter cables, main battery wiring) So I opted to mount the turbo up front where the A/C compressor was. Once the compresor was pulled out and the A/C fan removed there is TONS of room up there for a turbo. It also makes FMIC plumbing really easy.
Good Luck

yea i have mine over the tranny, i got a heat sheild for the turbine housing we'll see how good it works, also i plan on wrapping some heatsheild over my shifter cables etc. I second the not too cheap part too the piping and exhaust work wasnt bad but the supporting mods got expensive fast( new clutch, flywheel, wideband, piggyback etc.) plus my fleebay turbo just blew its seals while the car was getting tuned on the dyno. I just ordered a new garret t3/t4 $$$$. i should have everything running within two weeks and ill post some vids.

I plan on having the whole shifter cables and all that completed covered with a heat shield and gonna rout all of the hot piping such as manifold and down pipe down the front so that way the only thing thats warm by my intake will be mostly engine heat and probably the turbo, but I am gonna make sure that everything will be shielded properly

thats why heat wrap is a wonderful thing lol. it may not be cheap for the elctronics, but im getting lucky and getting some of the more expensive parts for dirt cheap from some of the gear heads i work with lol. but i think that it will be well worth the trouble. our cars are just sexy as all get out, and it really upsets me that ips, or DR or 3sx wont manufacture anything for the sohcs. maybe they are afraid of all us sohc boys making the dohcs look bad
