I see the car wouldn't start with a key and you have no tach. This car was a SOHC ..correct? If so I know you know it didn't have the MFI relay. When my MFI relay was disconnected I had the same thing. No tach and no start with the key. I could easily bypass it and did to get it to start but still had no tach.Once I found I left the connection off of the MFI relay(bitch plug) deep in the dash the car would start with the key and I had all of my gauges. If you bypassed the MFI then adding one should clear up the problem.

If you have the MFI relay then check the bitch plug. The one way back behind the far pass side air vent.Almost beside the door. It's WAY burried and easy to miss if you changed the harness.Like I said..as you know you can by-pass the MFI all together but in doing so I still couldn't get the tach to work. Also didn't have a coolant gauge either.
