Dodge Re: Thinking about giving up

I read this thread and wow can I relate however let me tell you a little Story..
back in 97-98 I worked for Dodge and Mitsibishi... as a Technician.. I got to work on a few of these timing Belts and Trans install a AWD was my first LOL.. and of course after a major repair I Test drove them WOW I fell in love with the Twin turbos.. I said I would get one one day.. Well that Day was in 2004 My Blk 91 AWD Dodge... I went to Fla to pick it up on a Flat bed Sure Glad i did that part. seemed like a great deal 5,500 with a fresh rebuilt engine and 2 new Oem turbos.... LOL well to make a long story short needed tires lol 500 dollars later new Sneakes were on it on week later it broke bad... Timming belt jumped trans tore up from som stupid little Piece of metal broke off near the shift forks wiped out intermediate Gear 2nd Gear Out put shaft was worn out Transfercase leaking....Bent valves in the Heads... Pretty Fubar..
But I had some help from my dad money wise and Many many hours on my own I put humpty dumbty back together again fired right up then a noise in the top end when 2 days went by I said now What WELL BECAUSE Of an idiot mechanic shadetree wise did not know better did not sync the Timming belt right it loosend then after all that the Bottom end came apart .The number 1 Connecting rod the Nut on the Rod it self Unthreaded it self piston hitting head ( did not check the bottom end wish I had LOL.I said WTF only way that can Happen is improper torquing Period...By that time I was majorly pissed... Parked the car and did not touch it till this last month..
Now if you look in my thread on the N/A forced induction I am building from this Headache what I hope to be a Crown Jewl.. As I Bought a very nice Pearlwhite 91 R/T converting it to a FWD TT with my other engine and the first thing I Have done was adapt my Rear Big Brakes to this car that was So Sweet as i heard it could not be done....
And Now I am so excited to work on it again generally till 10:00 or 11:00 each night. Hope to have it ready By October or sooner.
But in your case if you are going to play you are going to Pay... when you start making lots of power and making it faster and faster with upgrades things are going to break just the nature of the Beast. Just ask any Dragracer around in any class..These things are made of Aluminum and Steel not Titanium and magniesum so just remember that....
My last job last year I built Drag car chassis that had 100K+ (dollars) engines twin turbos Blowers ect... in them and they broke all the time.... Just my 2 cents... So just stick with her in the End you will be gald you did....
By the way I got a me a Practical car for my every day driving....a 99 Grand prix GT
Phil

Trust me I knew it wouldnt be cheap but when its your only car and your a student in college well its not easy or practical.Im sticking it out because I would like to see the full potential of not only this car but the FWD platform.
