Swap in TT engine in place of NA engine

From what you posted, Rolland. The front frames are not different. The blocks will swap car to car, but the engine side mount is different on 1, maybe 2 points. So you need the mounts from the donor block to go into the new chassis, but the chassis side mounts are the same. Just a note: tranny mounts are different between ALL transmissions, although I don't know if you were changing that. I do not have a mix-and-match engine (as in NA with TT parts on it) but I do have an ATX DOHC, a MTX SOHC with a conversion to TT in process, and 2 5spd TT's, under my belt. So I have seen some, not all the differences, and my information is for the most part, not just read, but I have seen some of the pictures, differences, explanations here and other places, so not all of it is on my own personal cars.

Do some searching and you can come up with your own info, my info is correct and im not sure what vrfury is even arguing about it me. He seems to just be covering himself with the things i have corrected for him. Yes i have done many of these swaps and just about anything else, so yea my information is correct. This info is coming from personal experiences and information read and told to me. But like i said, if you dont beleive me or want to know for sure, just do some searching on it and you'll find the exact same info i posted, but said by other people.

I have rebuilt both engines, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see they are VIRTUALLY the same. However, there seems to be almost no sense in doing this cost-wise. I've done more than I can count. I do them Monday-Friday 8:30-6pm. I agree with you that this thread is confusing. Feel free to call the shop and I can tell you everything you need to know.

My only input on this is that your best bet on budget and frustrations is to do the following.

Figure out which year of VR4 is going to best suit your needs: things like ECU, and wiring harness compatability....

Find a good cheap donor car keeping in mind the following. If your motor is healthy and is a DOHC, dont worry if the engine in it is running, unless you just HAVE to have the TT 8:1 motor. IMHO the NA 10:1 works just fine.

All the little brackets, mounts, clips, wiring and stuff will be right there for you to pull from your donor. Not to mention being able to physically see where some of the stuff goes.

After your all done you can sell off the parts you dont need, and greatly reduce the end cost of the conversion. That is not to say you wont need to purchase things like fuel control, help in the traction department "LSD", and other little stuff.

A healthy NA 10:1 DOHC can be boosted, and reliable as long as you do things right and get a good tune on it. That being said, if my motor ever goes, I will be dropping the compression down to 8 or 8.5 :1

Hey guys I have a 91 N/a and plan to put a new engine in it. If I buy a crate TT engine and drop it in my car will it run? I'll buy turbos later to finish the set up but will the engine run with my ecu and electronics?

all and all yes. there might be one or two things that you need to do but there is not much difference in the motors other than compression and oil pump. If you do put the TT 8:1 motor in your car with out turbos then it will be slower than it is now because the motor will be 8:1 instead of 10:1.

Either way you want to view this, you came at me as an ass in the first place. That would be the only reason I would comment in that fashion towards you. And I'm sure you'll spend enough time trying to think of the most appealing way to turn what I say into some sort of 'your-dumber, more rednecker, I have a science degree, my friend owns the fastest stealth fwd tt, Alan had dinner at my house last nite so I'm that cool... fuck I don't know, just to impress yourself or other people on the internet. I would hope maybe your not intent on being an internet king and maybe you just have some difficulty communicating without being rude, alot of people on here do.
