Hello everyone. I am rounding the final bend of my SOHC turbo conversion and need help and advice with one last thing. I am currently running NGK Iridium plugs in the car but have read that a turbo car requires different plugs with a different gap. What would you guys reccommend as far as a brand of plug and gap for a turbo application?

the densos would be a little hotter i believe. that would help make sure that you have plenty of spark so that you dont detonate.

Why not just run the same plugs as a TT? Makes sense to me...

i was told that you should run the hottest plug that you can with 93 octane to make sure you have good spark and ignition that way it helps you aviod predetonation. using the factory tt plugs makes sense to me

to put an end to the garbage in this thread.
go to napa, ask for NGK coppers for a 91 3000gt dohc turbo awd. if you are going to be making over 400 hp, ask for them in one heat range colder. get a spark plug gapper tool for 3 bucks while you are at it, and gap them to .035 . i promise you will be burning through ANY plugs you buy while you are still tuning your car. run the coppers till everything is stabilized, then get some denso iridiums and be happy. what kind of turbos are you using? edit, start with a 6 heat range and go 7 if you are making over 400 hp at the crank.

I cannot use DOHC plugs beceause the SOHC plugs are a different thread pitch and I believe they are a different style all together. I am using a single 20g with a 10cm monster turbine housing. I was going to use coppers to tune with and after I get things stabilized switch to an iridium/ platinum plug. I was just confused as to what heat range would be a good starting point. Thanx again for the reply. |
