Default Question on O2s

Are the O2s the same for all years/models? I was also wondering, and I know I've touched on this before. Why can't you just wire one O2 sensor into both wires on the ECU instead of running a wire up to the front then to the ECU? Wouldn't it still be getting 2 signals if the wire was split?

For each position, I am pretty sure the 02 sensors are the same between model years. Not completely positive, but I think they are. Within each model year the front, rear, and cali-spec sensors have different part numbers though, as the wiring harnesses are different lengths.

I am pretty sure they are the same. As far as using one O2 I would think you could get a weaker signal than the ECU would be expecting but I don’t know. It just seems like you would be asking for trouble. The only person I know off hand that ran one had problems but he had all kinds of problems.

Also, I think some ECUs have a problem with splitting the 02 signal, and some don't. At least for cali-spec sensors, the ECU expects to see different signals (to test the precats). I'm really not sure how it would react if the front 02's have the same signal.

I do not have a front 02 sensor hooked up on my car and I have not yet triggered a CEL. My 94-95 harness DOES have a plug for the front 02 sensor though - it is taped up near the AC Compressor harness. As far as I know, you can just buy an 02 sensor and plug it in.

So you are just running the rear O2?

wow! It seems like that would cause problems (not having any signal to one).
how long have you been running like that?

About a week so far. No CEL, no DTCs. I have been driving to work this week.

I'd give it a shot. If you have a problem, an 02 sensor is really easy to install later. Just lift the radiator out of place and screw in the bung. I assume you have a USDM 02 housing with the bung.

Well, basically. The NA (rear) sensor has a longer harness, but it is essentially the same sensor. Pretty much any 02 sensor should work in your front.
