Default Question about TT engine swap

Could I swap a 92 vr4 engine into a 1994 Sl? and would I have to change the entire wires and ecu? I ask because I wanted to but a TT engine because mine is burning a lo of oil but I am not sure if I could just swap the engines or if I have to swap the whole wiring and ecu because of the different generation.

If you're doing a TT conversion, you should be able to. The TT engine has a lower compression ration, so if you're not doing a TT conversion, you'll lose power. You will probably have to do something about the CAS, and the radiator fan control. Yet I've also heard of 94 TT conversion guys using 1g TT ecus and they didn't have to do anything with the CAS. I'll let someone chime in and confirm this, but if you're not doing a TT conversion, I wouldn't just put a TT engine in w/o the turbos.

I wanted to do the whole TT conversion, would I have to swap the whole wiring too or can I use the ecu and wiring from a 94 Sl. The engine is from a 92 VR4, but I am only buying the engine without the wiring or ecu.

If the TT engine is going in, you need the TT wiring harness and ECU.

I don't think you need the harness but if you are doing a conversion then you want the first gen TT ECU. The 1st gen ECU will plug right into your 94 harness. If you want to do it then search this sub forum because all the answers are here.

if you're going to do it, do it the right way... it's much easier and quicker to just throw a matching wire harness in.. i don't understand why people make a big deal about switching the wire harness... it takes like an hour to switch them..

thanks !
I bought stock ICs along with a ton of other parts for my swap but when the parts came in, the ICs had a million bent fins... I got a great deal on the DSM SMICs and they look much better... and if you look closely you can see my Setrab Oil Cooler...

probably because the 1st gen TT ECU plugs right in.

I think this case will be a little different because the plug for the CAS will be missing on his harness. The 92 engine uses the CAS on the passanger side, while the 94 uses it on the drivers side attached to the cam. I have no idea how you'd wire that in or if you'd need to. Also, the fan currently is controlled by the 94 ecu. But if you use a 1g TT ecu, you will need to find a way to control the fan, which has been done. So, my only worry would be wiring the CAS.
