The defining principles of why I disapprove of solid mounts have to do with harmonics. The absence of a rubber or poly insert completely negates the system's ability to dampen a vibration, so the motor soaks all of this up instead of transferring it through the motor mount. It sort of goes along with the idea of a harmonic dampener on your crank pulley. By adding a solid mount, the system is now completely overdampened. This is no good since there needs to be some time for decay so that the engine is not as likely to absorb these vibrations. I really wish I could explain it better than that, but without you having some knowledge in vibrations and systems classes it's kind of a pain. To start, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vibration Also take note of this quotation which is 100% why I am against solid motor mounts as they cause these kinds of internal vibrations: Quote:

I had to drive the car around, I mean she is just begging me to do so.
3 things happened while driving. 1: I felt AWESOME being back in my car, especially since I cleaned her up a little bit yesterday. 2: Around the neighborhood I drove past two different groups of kids, both times the kids yelled out nice car. One group with probably middle school kids, the other probably high school. 3: 4th gear popped out when I go on it! At that point I turned off of the main road and into a neighborhood. I drive listening to the transmission, it sounded fine, I got back on the main road to get home, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd felt fine, 4th popped out. Not violently, so I drove home in 3rd and got her into the garage. I went looking with a light, found that my intake pipe from my front turbo to the side mount was coming into contact with my shifter linkage when in 4th. Which I'm willing to bet once air passes gives just enough force to pop it out of gear. I wont know for sure if that was it until I reroute the pipes, but it makes sense and I'm pretty sure that is the culprit. ![]() -John

If it wasn't coming out of gear before then I am pretty confident you found your problem. |
