After being with out a 3s for awhile I decided to get another 1. I just pulled home a 91 SL w/ a dead engine. Poor thing kocked and smoked all the way home. So that is sitting in my driveway. Pulled the engine out for another 1 I had laying in the garage. Plan was to just get it running. Well the gods have different plans and they smiled at me. I went and picked up a 91 VR-4 w/ a bad title. Title was signed by 3 different people, so it is useless, unless you find the 1st person, and have him re-title it, then the second person has to re title it, and so on. So the car can't be registered. So for $500.00 I got a 91VR-4 to use for the SL swap. Car runs good.
So the plan is to pull the engine and everything else and do the swap into the SL. This will be 1 of the cheapest swaps in history. A $300 91 Sl w/ 144 K miles w/ a bad engine. A complete running 91 VR-4 w/ a bad title, $500. Figure in the cost of the 120k mile tune up parts and I should be gold. Hopefully have this done and painted by October, for the WCNC. I'll post pics tommorow.

![]() i hope you are gonna keep it simple and convert the getrag to fwd? that leaves you alot of room to play, have you thought about the 60k tuneup and upgrading fuel, and turbos while its outta the car? or you just gonna get it running for now and upgrade later?

Since I left 3kgt's I still have alot of parts just laying around. Innovative wb-o2, full greddy gauges, safc-2, 550 injectors, and a full cleaned and flow tested stock TT 360's, brand new Wally fuel pump, enough braided fuel line, and fittings to do a twin feed setup, adj fpr, GT-Pro 368 turbo's, Maft translater and everything for that. Couple interior pieces, 3 gauge pod, front and rear strut bars, 18' Konig rims painted black, need new tires, rfl bov, Apexi turbo timer, brand new set of un cracked dash vents, front mount intercooler and everything for that, set of lowering springs and new struts. I have a roll bar and a harness bar laying around too. Alot of polished parts and chrome parts I all ready have, so w/ new paint and wheels she should look better. I'll find more parts as I go through everything, I know I have more, just can't name them all right now.
The goal is to just do the 60K tune up and get her running w/ the fwd trans. I figure I should be okay w/ that for awhile. After that I'll start adding parts and then since I have the Getrag I can all ways use that later. The stock 9b's will be plenty for awhile, after I get bored w/ that and finish adding all the above parts I can all ways switch to the 368's that are laying on the shelf. By that time it should be running and looking how I want it. The engine seems okay for now, I'll have to double check it's health before I start looking for more power. But I will just get her running as close to stock as possible, when I get more time I'll start adding all the parts I have laying around. Pics to come |

Yep, tt engine, it runs like a stock vr4, so it should be okay. I did not do a comp check on it yet. When I am doing the 60K, I'll drop the pan, scrape all the nasty stuff that is in it. As all oil pans have nasty stuff in them anyways. And take a look. Since I'll all ready have it on the stand, I will probably plastigauge the bearings just to make sure. Since it is a stock Vr4 w/ no mods, I hope it will last a while. It is a clean engine, shows no signs of abuse or neglect. But you never know till you crack it open and look. It pulls like it should, and idles fine, no smoke or leaks, engine is reletively clean, no signs of leaks or anything. After I finish pulling it and get the rest of the covers off and drop that pan I'll then know the condition of the engine. I keep forgetting to read the odometer. I am hopeing that it is just a very well maintained engine. If I could track down the previous owner and get some history on the car I'd feel better. But if I could track down the previous owner's I'd just keep it the way it is. But a w/ a messed up title the best this VR-4 can be is a engine donor.
All the listed mods are left over's from my other 3kgt, I would have sold them all, but I knew some day I would have another 3kgt. Now I am glad that I did not sell them. The vin check came back fine, The car is not reported stolen in Nevada, I don't know if stolen car reports extend past state lines. I believe the guy I bought it from but that title issue makes me nervious. I have no idea how I am going to get rid of the shell. The junk yards require a signed title. So not real sure about my options there. But oh well, on with the swap. Have to work tonight, so pics will come tommorow |

To do that I thought you still need a title. I was told that a scrap yard still requires you to have a title. If it was that easy, wouldn't every car thief just bring the left over's to the scrap yard?? Maybe I am over thinking this, or just paranoid at being stuck w/ a parted out shell of a car. Maybe I can just throw the left over in the front yard and call it modern art. I bet the wife and the H.O.A. would absolutely love that. Or call it a tribute to all the parted and dead VR-4's. Every 3s owner has to make a pilgrimage to my house, and kneel before the parted out wreck to remember all those that have been parted out.
