Default FWD TT 10:1 questions

OK, so I know you can go TT on the 10:1 DOHC but you would need to run lower boost because of the compression.

Higher compression makes more power on lower boost than lower compression makes on low boost.

If I wanted to go TD04 just stock 9bs on a 10:1 aiming for 14s... what boost would I need to run to be low 14s and what supporting mods would be recommended?

I was just thinking about it and i'm wondering is it better to stay 10:1 and make more power instead of swapping the 8:1 in... I may be wrong one what i've already said so please anyone correct me if i'm wrong.

I was assuming that... if I ever go TT i'm gonna stay very mild... nothing serious... If I decide to get something serious I will get a TT and then upgrade it. But far into the future if I could have a pretty reliable low 14 fwd tt that'd be sick.

But, i'd want to use the 10:1... mainly because there will be less labor involved and because it makes sense to run lower boost and get more power why drop in a lower compression motor... does that make sense or am I stupid? lol

If not 9bs would it make sense to use a different setup... i'd only be interested in keeping the car as reliable as possible... like a regular NA but turbo. I don't know anything about turbos except they make awesome noises and make the cars go faster.

I'm not interested in making a TON of power... i'm interested in making enough to be very safe and in the mid to low 14's... I like to gauge goals on E.Ts

the downside to having the higher compression is that becasue of strain on the internals, as well as knock, you are very limited to what boost you can run. the 10:1 set-up seems to be limited to 10psi, the only member i know that has turned it up past that is deathsled. hes running 13psi. and so far so good.(there may be others but hes the only one i know). with a lower compression you can run much more boost and in the end make more power.

think about it. TT converted 6g72s generally make anywhere from 260-300whp on 6-10psi with a GOOD tune. the motor can be pushed past this, but not safely. a bpu 8:1 motor puts down anywhere from 285-320 AWHP. (depending on what dyno i know 3sxs was around 280ish). and its much much more reliable. lower compression is better for boost.

as far as running 14s...with a converted 10:1 motor, with soid mounts, springs, wider tires, and an lsd, you should see low 14s.

its most important to make sure maintence is up, and your tranny can take the abuse. id personally go with the maintence, then tranny upgrades, then TT conversion. or you could swao in a getrag.

as many other members will tell you..boost is addictive. i warn you now it will only be a matter of time till you want to get into the 12s

good luck

At wastegate pressure (6psi) on street tires, you can hit mid 14's no problem. And trap 100+mph.

I did a 14.4 @ 107 at 9psi with a 2.8sec. 60'. With atleast one spark plug wire arking in every gear but 1st.

Well, I don't wanna go for broke... I would just like to have a pretty cool FWD TT lol... nothing really serious... more or less to curve my BOV craving lol.

I just wanna get enough info together for the perfect setup so say in a year or two I decide I wanna get serious and do something like this.

As far as single turbos go... i'm not looking to fab a lot... I was just gonna keep it TD04 because all the stock vr-4 parts are readily available and i've been in a BPU 9b vr-4 with a bunch of lightweight parts and that thing fucking took off... would definitely keep me satisfied for a while. I'd say it was a low 13 high 12 car but i'm not desiring anything faster than 13's.
