Default cast/forged crankshaft question

K, so i'm in the middle of a rebuild and a tt conversion and was buying a new crankshaft. Something he told me puzzled me an i wanted to get you guy's input. He said he had a bunch of forged cranks because they are crappy and most people with 3k's end up putting in a cast crank.

I knew, well thought i guess, that forged cranks were stronger. I don't know if this guy was full of s**t or what. Anyway input would be appreciated

Yes forged cranks are definitely stronger. You can tell if its a forged crank by tapping the end where the crank pulley bolt goes on and it will make a high pitched ring if it is forged. Cast cranks FTL

Forging is casting into molds under pressure. Much better properties from the process.

how much power do you want to make?
For a 9b setup, just take a crankshaft out of a minivan. It will be fine. Probably only cost 50 bucks, and it won't have been beaten on!
No point getting a forged crankshaft for that.
I only use cast crankshafts and have never had a problem

IIRC, the cranks in '93+ TT's and '94+ DOHC NA's were forged stock.

no doubt forged is better, but I am still running the original cast crank that came in my car 150,000 miles ago.
