Keep in mind, the Speed Freak LSD is going to help a lot. Expect more traction problems from a SCed car with stock drivetrain.

i will sell my car and buy a vr4 before i switch to a 5speed in my car. I was just saying i would rather have a manual, but my car will be a lot nicer than a vr4 when its all said and done imo.

What I am looking to do is a 4-500HP FWD ATXTT, what have others done to combat the traction problems? I am thinking a mild turbo upgrade from stock, then spray when I need it in 3rd-4th gear would yield this effect without having to basically weld steel weights to the front of my car.

I want to be able to smoke other cars from a roll as well as on a track or from a stop (hence spray in higher gears, to catch up).

I have a 95 NA DOHC as a donor motor that I plan to rebuild as a TT motor then doing the swap.

Not exactly sure how much hp I can put to the FWD with out having traction problems, although I do know I can upgrade front end components to help with traction but when getting into 300-450 range it may be impossible.

Just throwing out my thoughts and dreams for my 97 SL

Traction, even with the LSD is tough. The LSD insert made a big difference, the SC is building boost off the line and can hole shot pretty damn quick. Keeping the wheeps from sping and hopping is another issue. When RAYP tuned it he said it was faster than a stock VR4, we wanted me to consider building up the engine and adding some more boost. The SC has potential, the problem is cost, right now its just cheaper to go TT. I would love to add a ripps kit to a VR4 engine and drivetrain just to see what kind of power we could make. The Vortech V5 is capable of 30 psi and there are some eclipses that are running it, but again cost is an issue right now, doing a TT conversion is just so much cheaper. But as kits go, the SC is a nice add on for a base model SOHC!

I'm sure IPO must have a bunch of threads regarding traction and the SL-TT. He was making a lot of power off of his twin Evo 16G knock-offs. The fat drag slicks in the front helped a lot - you may want to start off by picking out an excellent pair of drag radials.

Sorry I havent been on here in a while. I did "WITH A WHOLE LOT OF HELP" my conversion like two years ago and have put a little over 40k on it. Really with minor problems. I have chewed up one transmission, But I have tracked the car quite alot. My best time at the track so far was on the 9b's @16lbs. Ran the 1/4 in a 13.22. Havent really been to track since the DR650's went on. Having a wierd boosting issue. Was at the NG and stuck at 10.5 psi on the DR650's and ran a consistent 13.5 all day. lol

Once I get time to concentrate on the car more we will get things figured out, and she should fly. As far as the way the car drives...... erm im putting about----20k a year on it 8)

I have never regretted doing the conversion, and given the chance I will do it again.... on a Spyder

Has anyone rode in both an atx and a mtx fwd tt? Is the traction actually better in the atx from the huge gears?

i don't know how gearing would effect traction. that's a function of whp, tires, road conditions, and throttle--moreso than what ratio you're running in.

i would definately disregard those who say fwd can't hook up. 3sx's t2 would beg to differ.

Ask and you shall receive.

I completed my TT conversion in late July. Since then I have put about 4000 miles on my car. Yes, that's 4000 miles in a little less than three months. So needless to say I have been driving the car a lot and it has given me NO issues in reliability (knock on wood).

I have a sizable oil leak coming from the front of my oil filter housing. I attempted to fix it last weekend but to no avail. I'll get it fixed during Thanksgiving or Christmas break.

I'm getting smoke under heavy vacuum after cruise, which I believe is due to oil being sucked into my intake. I have a makeshift oil catch can I will be putting on this week.

I'm also getting a lot of knock under any amount of boost. I believe it to be caused by spark blowout so I will also be re-gapping my plugs this week. Apparently the numbers the shop manual gives (.037-.043) will not work.

I'm running the TT ECU and it is awesome. No need to tune. I'm so glad I figured out how to make it work. It's so easy! There's no excuse for any ATX TT conversion to go without one now that I wrote the book on how to do it!

Traction is not an issue. You have to be careful of torque steer when hitting the gas in a turn, but that is to be expected with a high hp FWD car. No need to get crazy on the throttle at every stoplight.

Here are my mods:
TT conversion
Every stock part from a TT unless otherwise mentioned (including intercoolers, BOV, plenum, etc)
TT ECU
3sx crank pulley
3" testpipe
front mount oil cooler
sidemount transmission cooler
ksports

Might be forgetting some stuff, but that's the beef of it. Simple and effective.

Nice. Good luck with getting all of the little issues worked out. That's two down one to go...SLguy I'm really curious to see how SLguy feels about traction since he has e16g's. I think 475-500 fwhp would be a little scary.
