What are your mods? How do you like it so far? Traction (under normal driving and wot...say from 0-60 and 60+mph)? I've heard from some that the traction isn't as bad as most make it out to be as long as you don't dog the car all day long at every takeoff. Anyone other than SLguy have bigger turbos? I'd just like to hear about everyones setups, how they are doing/coming along, and experiences.

Now a VR-4 driver
|
haha, ill be the first to post i guess.
I have a 93 base atx 3000gt that i twin turboed, i was 17 when i started the project and am now 18. Yes i was in way over my head but i dont regret doing it, i learned SO much stuff, and i will never be afraid to do anything on any car i ever own now. As far as my setup i have as follows: 9B's/Dual core Front Mount(no real reason but it looks AWSOME!!)/3sx lightweight crank pulley/s-afc/prosport peakhold oil press. --boost guage/apexi turbo timer/addco rear sway bar/3sx front strut bar/MR coilovers(not yet installed)/ICH4 inch exhaust). Let me first say that no matter how bad the car runs, i would still love it just because ive put so much work into it and i have a special connection with it. I dont have any transmission modifications yet, mostly because i dont know what to do. I really love the car, what can i say it sounds amazing, handles great, and as soon as i put my rims on will look amazing!! As far as the actual TT ATX part, i really need to get it tuned. i have the s-afc set to 0% correction, and the car is running very rich. Also when i accelerate a fair amount, i will get a lot of blue or white smoke out of the tail pipe, usually this goes away after i let off the gas for a few seconds. I dont know why this would be but i am not running the car too hard as of right now so im not that worried. I really wish i had a manual, but i am also glad i have an auto because ive heard they wont break near as much as the Manual will, also its nice to be able to do stuff while you are driving. I would also rather have a vr4 just because there awd and manual, but i wont be selling my car any time soon, im in love with it! All in all i love my car, its not completely finished nor does it run perfect but I have only had it on the road less than a week. I followed BigTyla's thread for connecting the ecu, along with research i did on my own, and everything is working fine, i am having some idle issues but nothing major. No CEL at all!! One small oil leak(i think it is coming from the oil intake line on the front turbo, I know i torqued it down though so i dont know why its leaking. Sorry for the long post, i was just very bored, hope you guys enjoy all that reading. Lets here from you other guys, any idea on why im getting smoke on accel. -david

<-----ATX TT here.
Besides for the TT conversion, the car is mostly stock. Lets see, I have 9b turbos, and an SAFC2 wired up to the NA ECU (which I now think I am going to replace). I also have an IPT end clutch and shift kit. Other than that, I really can't think of any additional modifications that I have done. Traction isn't bad if you drive normally. On a hard launch, however, traction isn't great. I believe that my front struts are going to need replacing in the future, so those may be contributing to some of the wheel hop. I don't track the car and I really don't beat on it too much, so it is hard for me to give you an accurate estimate of my 60ft and 0-60. Under normal driving circumstances, there is plenty of power. I certainly have no problem merging onto the highway while drinking my cup of coffee. ![]()

I really didn't believe most of the people who say traction is horrible. I just figured they drove it hard all the time. I thought it probably wasn't bad if you drove like a normal person.
How long has yours been running? I also think that the atx is much stronger than people give it credit for, with just a cooler it should be 10x better. I'm thinking about going through with this later on after I finish school. I am planning on putting coilovers, poly mounts, subframe solid bushings, 18x9 wheels w/sticky 275 tires, quaife lsd, etc. I want to maximize traction first then do the swap w/td05's and IPT buit atx. I drive normal around town, but I like to play around on interstate(someone always tries to race me). Most of my driving is on interstates anyway. |
