I was waiting for one of you to get technical on me!
I'm not a tranny mechanic so I posted the link where he gives details on what his rebuilds include. http://www.importperformancetransmis...ishiauto.shtml Believe me we did try a simpler less expensive way first. The tranny that was in the car only had 20k on it so when we did the TT conversion we had him build our torque converter and valve body first and installed a cooler with an electric fan. We knew right out of the gate that it wasn't going to work. It was shifting irregular and 2 days after getting it out of the shop we were leaving for NG07 from VA-13 hour drive one way. When we started pulling the mountains thru WV in traffic it started heating up real quick. We drove it for 2 months like that and then it started shifting really bad-wouldn't shift down when you would stop and take off or it wouldn't go into reverse @ times. So DJ contacted John and he built another tranny for him to come pickup for us. If I have this correct it is a 2nd gen tranny with eclipse parts because it is stronger then the 1st gen tranny we had in it. John said we would break the axels before we broke this transmission! Thats also when we thought it would be fun to install the controller as well. Yes, it's probably over kill but I don't have to worry about it breaking no matter what kind of abuse we throw @ it. Thanks for the interest Granny

Hmmm... Autotrannies don't have load on them like a manual, per say. You'd kill an auto faster from heat than you would from power (if you have a shift kit). For TDo4 power levels all you should need are adequate cooling mods, a shift kit, and better clutch end packs.
I personally went with one of their higher stall tq converters, but that was because the turbo I was going to use had a higher efficiency range. Sounds to me like the trans was having issues due to heat dissipation not power. Keep the new one cool and as he said you won't have any problems. I'm not sure about the dsm's having stronger tranny parts. Example, non turbo awd GTO's use a turbo awd dsm tranny in a different bell housing, yet they break all the time because of the shitty stock flow and heat soaking. : shrug : Again, sick car mang. |

very true and even if the tranny starts to slip it'll be nothing comparable to the power loss of a slipping manual clutch ;-)....auto=perfect shift everytime manual=good shift most the time if u can drive it

Nice conversion. As an aside though, you don't need that little controller to do the TT conversion, even if you decide to use the TT ECU. I have a write-up around here on how to get it to work. I've been running it for almost 10k miles now! Jomojr has been running his for much longer, but I believe he actually transplanted the entire TT harness in his car. I simply used an ECU wiring harness adapter on my original harness.
I was wondering when IPT was going to turn their controller to a paddle-shifter. I had been pondering exactly how that may work out from a design perspective. It's a very neat idea as I personally would not like to push buttons on a box in my center console to shift when I want. A paddle on the steering wheel has always been more appealing to me.
