Default 3KGT Base Automatic FWD TT Swap

After a year of conversions we are ready to share our VR2

The one thing that will set this swap apart from most others is this newly TT FWD is an automatic.

IPT built a custom transmission for our 3KGT and the next fun part of this project is that we are the first
to get the new version of their transmission controller that lets you to drive it as a regular automatic or
switch up to a push button controller that allows you to change the gears maunally. Sweet!

Mods are just too many to list. We had to make all the upgrades involved with any TT conversion.

We started with a JDM TT Engine and a Dejon front mount intercooler.

The first attempt with the transmissson was just to rebuild the torque converter and valve body
but there was a problem with it shifting back and forth at random.
4 months later the rest of the tranny was upgraded as well and is now doing great.

And this is where we are today....

There are many more projects on the drawing board for this car but I think we have made good progress for our first year.

We want to thank our "Pit Crew" @ E.T. Motorsports for all their hard work putting this great ride together for us!

Mike & Karen

explain the transmission a little more. like how do you switch the gears manually and can you get a good downshift feel like a manual.

btw it looks very nice.

You have two choices.

You can put it in drive with the regular shifter and it will change automatically as it did before the controller was installed.

The next option is to turn on the controller and use the push buttons (see ashtray in pick #1) There are 4 buttons-first through fourth gear. Car stays in drive when u turn on controller and it goes directly to the gear selected.

Then u just shift up by pushing next button. Down shift is the same but you really need to make sure you don't shift too low for the speed!

It's like driving without a clutch. You shift on the same principal.
The shifts are instant. Gets you down the road fast!

There is also an option to turn the torque converter on and off but it's for later models then ours so I'm not sure how that works.

OK I am interested At first I was thinking there has been plenty of atx TT conversions but this does seem cool. Can you set it up with paddle shifters? and can you give us some close ups of the ashtray?

The IPT shiftkit with the buttons is great. I would like to see them move this too the stearing colum like paddle shifters. It would be nice to keep both hands on the wheel and have those paddles right there to control the shifts.

I love my SC with my Auto. there is nothing like merging into traffic holding your cup of coffee!

IPT hasn't designed this with the paddle shifters yet-remember this is the FIRST ONE actually sent out to the public. It may be something they will look at later but I'm sure there are a few of you out there that could design it.

We would really like to see that as well! A FWD with TT is hard to hold on to with BOTH hands

It is ALOT faster with the manuel shifter. You can select @ what speed and RPM to change gears. The shifts are instant-not like in regular automatic where it shifts slower to make it a smooth ride not fast.
