Default Techy questions on timining and adjustable cam gears

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All right so out of all the research that i have done here on 3si, i have found for my set up i would want to use adjustable cam gears and take the intake cams +1 degree and the exhaust cam gear -3 degrees.

I know this might be a real odd thing to ask, but why even do and intake cam gear?

Couldn't i just do new adjustable exhaust cam gears and retard that only? Will this work considering i believe the aftermarket gear is wider in size?
My basic set up is:
phantom turbos
660cc
FD fuel pump
aem ems (can anyone recommend someone to help with a good base map??)
street grind cams

Thank you all in advance.

1 deg can make a big difference when it comes to cam timing.
Thats why you get both intake and exhaust.

SO why buy gears..... when you can just get offset keys?

I understand the advancement of exhaust cam but if dealing with the 1g cam/crank sensor why are you messing with the intake cam? Certianly those with 2g's or the divorced cam/crank sensor rewire, could utilize the retardation of the intake cam. All you'd end up doing is delaying your ignition timing sequence.

I need to do my own research on this subject.

Cam gears however are cheap. I found a slighty used set from Ebay for almost 70% off new ones. Hell, they appear only to be mounted as a display and were never moved from "0" position.

But yes, what are offset keys? Crank woodruff keys? I'm having trouble imagining offset cam dowel pins.
