Default OBD II ----> Hybrid ECU swap

I was thinking about doing this but I have not seen anyone else that has accomplished it for certain. I HAVE SEARCHED and read 50 threads concerning this, none of which has a definitive answer.

My question is: can I put a hybrid 94/95 ecu into my obd2 car and not only have it run (someone has gotten this to work) but also log KNOCK?

Will I need to rewire the diagnostic port as well? Any other concerns?

Thanks,

Eric

depends on what year, the 97.5+ would be a lot harder, but you can still do it.

96-97.5 would be a lot easier (you dont have the MDP sensor etc).

Do you have 3 rows of pins (left to right) on the ECU in your car now? 97.5+ had this, and usually teh ecu is in a black plastic box. Before that they still used the metal copper color and plugs had 2 rows of pins down them.

harness swap makes it easy, but not really easy. You can always move pins where they need to go.

edit: no matter what year, you would be able to log knock.

I honestly don't remember from when I put my SAFC 2 in. I'm 99% positive it was still metallic colored though, I would remember that. I'd love to do this if its not too horribly difficult. I'll need to swap harnesses too not just the ecu? I have a 97 vr4 btw.

for those of you out there considering this, I will update this thread as soon as I try it out. I should have the ecu here in a couple of days.

I am interested as well. Subscribed to see how difficult it is to do.

If anyone's interested, I have a spare hybrid TT ECU.

Well folks, no go. The 95TT cali spec ecu I put into my 97 does not log as is. The ecu plugs directly in, the car starts and runs fine, but it will not log. In looking at my friends 95 VR4, the connector itself differs by one connection. There is one connection the diag port has on his car that my diag port does not have. This is NOT a connection that lines up with one of the four pins from the hybrid logger cable. The diag port obviously has atleast one physical difference. I am at a loss at this point. The only difference between his car and the ecu I put in is his fed spec and my new ecu is cali spec. There must be a difference in the signals going to the diag port. I appreciate any info.

EDIT: I forgot this ecu had the 8065 overclock; its been a long day. Just got done talking with shiver, and he seems confident thats the reason it wasn't working with a friends hybrid logger that is NOT modified to work with the overclock.

Good update. Keep us posted. I am very interested in this project. Cali spec stuff sucks in my opinion.

update for all yall ninjas out there: I plugged my buddies 95 TT fed spec ecu in and used his hybid logger---->success! It logs fine. It is my belief that the only reason it didn't work the first time is my ecu is overclocked, requiring a special version of shiver's hybrid logger software.

AGAIN: 95TT ecu into a 97 (OBD2 VR4) ---> direct plug and play (in my case) and it logs using hybrid logger. We are talking about logging knock on a OBD2 car here kids!!!
