Default MMCD EGT circuit design discussion.

I've been looking at how to hook an EGT probe up to MMCD. Mostly to set alert triggers but also for simple tuning.

First some links for background info

MMCD reference; MMCd New Features

Good background info on thermocouples; http://www.turbodieselregister.com/EGT_EVAL.pdf

Using the EGRT 5v input with MMCD, I'll need to amplify the thermocouple output by over 100 to get it up to 5v at the temperatures I'll need, say up to 2000 degrees F. See math below for my calculations.

There is a chip that can do this well, the AD595. It's output is 10mv per degrees C.

Here's a thread on using the AD595 with a 5/11 voltage divider to get the output down to 5v. http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/f...ighlight=AD595
AD595 Data sheet; http://www.analog.com/UploadedFiles/.../AD594_595.pdf

So my math is:

Thermocouple output is .000022v per degree F
2024 degrees F = 0.044528v

applying this to an AD595
0.044528v * 247.3 (AD595 Gain) = 11.0117744v

5/11 voltage divider on the output
11.0117744v*5/11 = 5.005352v

one concern is the AD595 max output is 2v less then the supply voltage so there's a chance i'll be below 13v supply and not have full temp range.
So, I have a TRE K Type probe I never hooked up, I have MMCD, for a few bucks does anyone see a reason why this wont work or if there's a better way to do this?

Default Re: MMCD EGT circuit design discussion.

an other way to go.

check this !
MCR-C-UI-UI-(450)-DCI(-NC) Configurable 3-Way Isolation Amplifier from phoenix contact.

http://select.phoenixcontact.com/cgi...ci&asid=758017

i have this product ( MCR-C-UI-UI-DCI-NC ) on my car for EGT type-K plx devices ( 0-60mV ) to plx-r500 input ( 0-5V )
http://www.plxdevices.com/products/r500/probe.html

i confirm it is good for 10V mini ( the supply voltage is 18-30V )
i made some tests and it is OK for 10-30V without any problem of the output of the isolator amplifier

you can make a calibration of the product.
configure input & output = 0-60mV & 0-5V by internals switchs.
DIP1 = 2,6,7,8 to ON
DIP2 = 3,6 to ON
ZERO potentiometer: Zero point adjustment 0V
SPAN potentiometer: Final value adjustment 5V
it is a linear output.

my calibration
temperature °C= FEM in microvolts (uv) : output in volt
0°=0uv : -0.02V
150°=6138uv : 0.49V
300°=12209uv : 0.99
450°=18516uv : 1.52V
600°=24905uv : 2.05V
750°=31213uv : 2.58V
900°=37326uv : 3.09V
1050°=46995uv : 3.58V
1200°=48838uv : 4.05V
1350°=54138uv : 4.49V
1500°= calibration not done, out of range for NF EN 60584.1:1996 or CEI 584.1 ( 1995)

you can put the output signal on the EGRT input

EGRT connector:

this is used only for californian GTO, not used in europe for example
see the place of EGRT connector EGRT - connector A-22 on the 3000GT :

on my 3000GT :
