ok, heres my plans, Kaze headlight scoop(1st gen) + cold air wall + cut and vent my blister. I figure that should make a path for lots of cool air to run over the intake, and the dam will block out hot engine temps

yea, and does anybody make the headlight scoop other than Kaze?

Not that I know of.

Summer is here though.

91 degrees ambient and in traffic 154 degrees at the intake.

Same here . . . I have seen temps in 150's a few times in the past couple weeks.

Seems to cause my car to experience low-load knock also. Never does it when cooler. Knock is only 1 or 2 count, but I still don't like it. I have the logger set to alarm anything over zero and it goes off occasionally when really hot.

I just stole a hood scooop off an STI... No, really I did!

Some people like it, the Scooby guys hate it....but ehhh...it works... After cruizing around for a bit I can actually touch the intake manifold! I measure IAT's before the TB, so I don't really have any before/after #'s.

I can tell you though that I'm not impressed with the Ebay China Bar/Plate IC's though. I had 1/2 a Kenworth IC on there, never saw IAT's above 99. The end-tank was not designed for how I had it setup (probably really poor flow), and it looked kinda crappy so I replaced all my IC piping with pollished, and a new BIG IC. Now I'm registering 120 regularly under boost, and 140 when abusing it...

Depending on where you are at it could be substantially warmer out too.

Back in the winter I would never see above 100 temps unless the car was idling for a long time but now that its summer the car can be cold and I will see 9x degrees by the time its warmed up and moving it can go as high as 15x.

On my 91 Stealth RT I have an aftermarket air filter, and an aluminum intake pipe. The highest I've seen mine go to was 158 when the ambient temp was 97. I'll let you know what the intake temp is once the thermal wrap the pipe.

You are getting those temps on a NA?

Man, I thought the turbos and manifolds were causing additional heat but if NA's get that hot its all based on the underhood ventilation or lack there of.

Simple unless you are moving with enough speed more heat is generated than is released. I wish some people with aftermarket vented or forced induction hoods would chime in.

Wow, I really thought 140's were in the very dangerous zone. I'm so used to 90's in mine. But yea, alot of my logs were in the fall, when it was much cooler out.

I'm starting to guess that 140's are acceptable, cause the more I tune with my dyno I'm seeing a pretty steady right in that area (at least on the boosteds, evo's, cobalts, ...).

I do remember a log comming back from denver a couple days after a really bad snow. The roads were still wet (too wet to play), but most the snow was gone. But with the 70+mph winds, my IC turned to a big ice block. I was logging 28 deg IAT.... Wish I could get those in the summer too!
