I have seen some mention in threads involving aftermarket hoods but no real discussion across the board as to the intake temperatures you all have seen and under what conditions.
I hooked up my scanmaster 3 today so I was playing with the features and one is a realtime of the temp from you MAS. The high today was 52 and at idle and low cruise I saw temps as high as 134. When cruising at 65/70 as the car began to get some fresh air through it came down to 91-95.
Over the next week or so I will have more numbers but I wanted to see the intake temps others are and have seen and under what conditions (area, aftermarket hood, cold air wall, cold air intake, FMIC, SMIC).
For me with a stock 1st gen hood (3 holes cut in the stock blisters), rear rubber seal removed, and DSM SMIC's, I saw the above.
130-135 at idle (roughly 80 degrees above ambient)
90-95 at cruise (roughly 45ish above ambient).

Yes! Actual measurements are needed for stuff like this. I hope you have the time to get a wide range of numbers, and stick them into excel. Then we can have an easy to digest chart of intake temp vs. ambient temp for everyone to understand.
We could probably get it over to Jeff at stealth316.com to add to the database.
Lets see how many responses we can get. Anyone using the stock MAS and a logger should be able to throw in some numbers. Anything that can effect the intake temps should be mentioned for reference.
Last night it was 37 ambient and I was seeing 51-56 while cruising, no wonder the car runs much harder when its cool out/ roughly 50 degrees difference in intake temps).
Here is the kicker at idle intake temps went up to about 63 and I let it idle for a bit to see if there would be any change (there wasn't). Took it one step further and looked at the coolant temp (steady 178 with and without the heater running), then I said lets pop the hood and see what happens when this cold air from outside hits the filter.
Nothing happened (well at idle). The filter was already cool to the touch but the idle temp of 63 never changed even with the hood open for five minutes. I realized the fans at that point where the main source of air going to the filter.
This is good info, I too would like to know whether there are any gains to be had in regards to blister modification, open element filters, etc. I was planning on fabricating an aluminum heat wall around my intake filter when that goes on, but might also consider venting the hood blisters, as I have a first gen.
I personally am not set up for logging, as I have an NA, but I know many who are and the info would be cool.
Where are you taking measurements from, at the MAS?
My IAT is right before the TB. i don't remember my exact temps, but I do know my intake temps lowered approx 15* with my hood. They were always pretty low, maybe 15*-20* above ambient?
I have to fix a few things, but I will be able to get measurements over the weekend sometime, hopefully.
I would like to know my intake temps before and after Meth injection as well. I have only been using meth for a week now, but I used 1 gallon of it in 6-8 1/4 mile runs down the track.. I imagine it is doing some serious cooling

The numbers I got are what my scanmaster is saying the ECU is getting from the MAS.

Ok, well you were asking for number with things like FMIC vs SMIC, but they would have little affect on the intake temps at the MAS.. They would affect the temps, but not nearly as much as they would a reading only a few inches away from the TB.
