on stock injectors you will be out of fuel at about 8-9 psi with e85.

But yuh, the dummy answer is larger fuel pump and larger injectors. I went up from 650s to 750s for enough flow (single evo3 16g- dsm). It makes a huge difference with spooltime as well

This spools faster? I was always under the impression that e85 will lessen the power of a vehicle. I guess that only applies to NA cars though.

yeah E85 burns faster then normal petrol, so you gain a little torque too

the local DSM shop that was near me when I lived in oklahoma used E85 in a ton of DSM's, 240's, and a bunch of other cars

on big laggy turbos they said they usually got about 200rpm or more faster spool

E85 will only lessen the power of a vehicle if it isn't tuned properly to run it

The decrease in spool is likely caused by the increase in fuel consumption.
more fuel = more exhaust
You can get more power if the vehicle is tuned to run on only e-85. Think alky drag cars.

I've also been under the impression that E85 is seldom 85% ethanol. I've heard the mixture varies from pump to pump. Stock flex fuel cars compensate for this with a fast refresh rate on the 02s and I've also "heard" that there's a sensor which detects the ethanol percent before the fuel even reaches the engine. Is any of this correct?

Yes there are ethonal % sensors... but I imagine it would be hard to integrate with our currently available piggy back fuel controllers.

So, if you can't guarantee what mixture you have in the gas tank, and we can't use a ethanol percent sensor, how could we ever have a consistent tune?

edit: I'm just trying to see if this is viable on a street driven vehicle. I like to get in my car and go. If I'm low on fuel, I just want to pump and go. Testing for composition would be a huge inconvenience.

85% in the summer and 70% in the winter

that's the only switch there is
