Default Billet 3.0L crank questions

What material are they machined from? I know some people here in Mexico that can custom CNC one but I need to know what material to buy.

thanks

4340....VERY hard metal.

Why billet 3.0L when at the same time you can bump out displacement?

If you are making a setup, you might as well make it a stroker.

Let us know how the prices compare down there.

I agree w/ Shiv, if you can get good pricing down there then go w/ a stroker.

It's going to cost the same no matter what.

Development costs and the first production one will be highly expensive (up here around $10k)

But even after that you're still looking at 4-5k up here for the crank by itself, then you add all the forged parts and that's why Ray is at the price he's at.

If you can get the prices down man, it would be incredible...I'd be in for one real quick.

Im working with some guys here that fabricate all sorts of things I gave them the material type the question is can they build one on a 5 axis cnc or they gonna need a special machine to build cranks ?

Due to labor I can get prices lower here ,(I dont about the material)but I need to get an idea of prices since the first unit is coming out of my pokets, I was thinking on using standar Chevy rods that are available at very low cost and there is a wide variaty of brands even on aluminum..

I have a metting with them these weekend I definitly keep u post..

3.5 or high displacement suggestions are welcome

these are the guys Im working with http://www.ciatec.mx/english/

thanks

Gilbert

Larger rod bearing surfaces would be nice, as well as a better oiling design and 3.5L - 3.6L stroker design.

300M is even harder, but I'm not sure about use in a crank.

Not true neccesarily. 4340 can be very very soft, in fact I took rockwell B measurements today of 70/72 on 4340. It is extremely hardenable though, which typically allows for 4340 to acheive the martensitic reaction, thus making it hard. hardenable is just the ability to achieve the martensitic transformation, not how hard it can be.
4340 is a common material for cranks, I have also seen some rods made out of it as well
