Default Will letting your car sitting for 3months damaging tires?

Just bought a 3000GT and the seller claims the tires only have 5000miles on. But for the past 3 months he hasn't been driving it and put it in his backyard sitting there.(in NJ, pretty cold)

All 4 tires have deep tread but are cracking like hell. So will a car just sitting there do so much damage to the tires?

I've heard of flat spots coming from just sitting for prolonged periods. as far as the cracking goes I'm not sure.

I'd probably invest in some new rubber just to be safe. You'd hate to blow a tire on the highway in your new ride.

Hi, Alex, Saw your other post here about the dry rot problem developing on tires. I just checked again my tires. They were all Bridgestone Turanza EL46 225/55/R16 95H M+S. Treadwear 300.

But on the sidewall the two spaces after the "DOT" is empty. They are all empty on all of the 4 tires. And there is no signs of them being scracthed away. So is this normal? What are these tires? The previous owner didn't tell me anything about the tires.

If they are JDM or european there doesn't have to be a dot code. Did you check both sides? do you see E and a #, like E4 anywhere is bold lettering? or JML?

Alex
There is an "E4" followed by "027675". So how do you know when the tire was manufactured?

Thanks Alex. I always love you people from TireRack. I also got great help from Jim at Bimmerforums.com

As for sitting in place for three months, a set of tires shouldn't dry rot in that amount of time. It usually takes quite a bit longer for the tires to dry rot. I've had a car sit for over 26 years and the tires are still not dry rotted. The front tires rotted but the rear tires are still viable.
The stealth rubber has been sitting in the garage for a year now, and they have not rotted. I wouldn't trust them at 140mph, but for local 50mph driving, they should be ok.
