Default wheel width on VR-4

I need to replace the wheels/tires on my 1997 VR-4 and some of the wheels I have found are narrower or wider than stock and I was wondering what the widest I could safely put on there, using the same size on all 4 corners ?

Some wheels are 8" width, and remember the stock wheel was 8.5". Also some wheels I found are 9.5 and although this may give me the option of a wider tire would it fit on the front ?

Thanks
Tony

Geez, do you really need 4 threads for the same subject, wheels and tires?

There's a sticky at the top of this section on rims that fit TT/VR-4.

The 5Zigens are a popular wheel, come in 18 x 9.5 that fit. ICE888 sells them, here's a thread in the group buy section:

Yes, the Proxes 4 are decent tires. Searching is your friend (with the right spelling). Here is a thread asking about them recently:
Toyo Proxes 4 tires, they any good?

You can put whatever you want on there so long as you have the measurements right. 9", 10", 11", whatever (though judging from your posts you don't need a serious wheel size).

Read this article on wheel fitment. It'll help you understand how to choose wheel sizes and offsets: The Pansy Patrol » Backspacing, offset, and buying aftermarket wheels

EDIT: Turbo Powered, are those the esses at the Glen in your sig?

Anything less than stock width is a ricer size, and therefore detrimental to performance...I would definitely check out ICE888, as he is good people to deal with, and has great prices.
