Here is a great application that I always check out. it will show you the difference in clearances when it comes to changing out your wheels in perspective to wheel height/width/offset. Make sure you start off with your stock wheel size measurements then go with the wheel you want. When you are figuring out offsets, its really on a case by case basis depending on the spoke set up.
here's one of many websites for wheel clearance calculators.

For the most part, the offset calculator is not very helpful. this is because it is mainly a problem of clearing the brakes, not the strut. spoke design and hub thickness is the major factor, hence the need for a specific thread.

Yes - spot on. My EVO wheels did not clear my new 6pot brakes at all yet were "calculated" to fit. The problem was the profile of the outer part of the rim where it joined the spokes.
As far as I can tell its trial and error all the way.
Well im getting the site going again in a completely new format. If someone wouldnt mind putting a collection of the info from this thread and various other ones; I could get this site up much much faster.
The info I would need would be easier for me would be as follows:
3SI member name, Wheel brand, wheel size, width, height, offset.
I wont put the info up unless its 99.9% verified though. I guess the best way to do it is just put up info of your own rims or your friends own rims. I also would like to have a picture of the car with the rims just to verify and use for reference later.
