I recently had a set of Toyo Proxes 4 tires installed on the cobra, and would like to know if they are any good or not. I've pretty much been on Nitto 555E on all my cars for so long i haven't a clue about other brands. I wanted goodyear gsd3's but they were so expensive it wasn't worth it. I liked the nittos but they didn't have any in stock at the time and the last set didn't even last a year, which was an oddity compared to the others i've had which last 18 mos to 2 years on average, so opted to try something different.
Without doing a harsh launch to melt rubber, they seem to dance around a bit instead of the grab of the nitto extremes. For driving to and from work, the proxes seem to do the job, just would like others opinions before i make a decision whether to keep them or not. (they have a 500 mile trial period where i can exchange them if not happy)
I figure either i can either go back to the nittos i like, and pay a bit extra, or keep these and opt for a pair of Nitto 555R's for occasional use, think i'd go with the 315s if i went for a 2nd set.
Willing to listen to input on the tires, good or bad.

I'm a fan of Kumho Ecsta performance tires. Good bang for the buck, I'm on my 3rd set and my only complaint is the short life of them, but they are cheap.
not my whole life, only since the mid 90s after i got the stealth. Also used them on the mustang gt, and then got two for the rear tires on the 04 cobra, had Kumho ecstas on the front and hated them, they lasted about a year before the tread was low enough to hydroplane too often. I made them last another year before replacing them though. The proxes are better in front than the bald kumhos.
The Proxes 4 is an all season high performance tire. Wrong tire for FL IMHO. My '95 had a pair of Proxes FZ4 (the Proxes 4 predecessor, basically the same tire) and a pair of T1S's on it when I bought it. They were OK, although I didn't push them too hard.

I have a few rim sets with FZ4s. Good tire, rears wear on outside, so rotate/remount them. Also have one set of 17" T1-S. Fun tire as well
currently have two used 245/45/17 Toyo Proxes 4 for sale, on stealth 17s. Never tried them out however

As stated, the Toyo Proxes 4 are all-season tires. They will always produce less performance regardless of which brand you goto.
If you want a Toyo tire that is basically in the same league as the Nitto 555 tires you have been using, you'll want the Toyo Proxes T1R. If you want equal performance to a Nitto 555R, you'd want the Toyo Proxes R888.
I used to use the Nitto 555 tires when I had my VR-4. There is no doubt they are an awesome tire, especially considering how cheap they are.
I just ordered a set of Toyo Proxes T1R for my current car. I'll let you know what I think of them if you'd like.
Proxes are pretty good. I ran them on my old car, but I have recently been hunting for the tire of my dreams and upon my search I drove with the michelin pilot sport ps2. These are THE tires my friend. They are pricy, but grab hard, last long and have vitrtually no road noise. I would recommend them to anyone

All season tires are what i need in florida. Have to be good in dry and wet conditions, no ice or snow. It rains too often here, and heavy too, in order to drive with dry weather only tires. Road noise doesn't seem to be a prolem with the proxes. and in the front i have no issue with them, but in the back they just don't feel secure or sure footed. They also spin way too easy compared to the nittos that were there before. I'm nearing my deadline soon, so will have to decide one way or the other. Think i may just opt for keeping these and buying a second set of rims for the rear tires, and installing the 315 Nitto DR. They tend to look pretty nice from the rear.

Not cheap, but IMO the best performance Wet/Dry tire is the Goodyear Eagle F1. Amazing tire in the FL down pores!
