Default Suspension Bushings

Does any one other than 3sx make a poly bushing set for a vr-4 ?

Thats a good question. I did quite a bit of searching a few months back and came up empty. Called various bushing manufacturers and could not find anyone making them for our cars, other than what 3SX has. Wound up only replacing only the lower control arm bushings, which are available fairly resonably.

The stock bushings are not wiggly soft rubber. Just replacing them with stock makes a huge difference....enough difference on the front that if you replace just the rear bushings on the a-arms without touching anything else, you need a new alignment. The rear AWD bushings can be bought from Mitsu and you can fill them with poly if you want them firmer, but fill them after you replace them into the rear brackets because if you fill them first, it will be impossible to press them in. The stockers are way too cheap and very adequate to bother with the 3sx poly

Wraith ,I was told that I had to buy the entire A-arm to get the bushings (stock) . Do you have a source for OEM bushings ? Thanks, Steve .

Mentor Mitsubishi sells the rear bushing (the big one under the door jam) which pops on the pin on the rear corner of the A-arm. Then theres the middle one behind the strut that is pretty solid and comes with the A-arm only. Its tough and unless you crash the car, that sucker never needs a replacment. Then theres the sway bar endlink which comes separate, and the BJ which comes with the A-arm. The one thats sold as aftermarket is poor quality and I dont recommend it. The right hand bushing number is MB808832 but you might want to check Mentors site....I think its listed.

So, yah, the middle (simple cylindrical) bushing that the long bolt goes thru only comes with the A-arm, bu the one in the back thats large and wears out can be bought separately.

Wraith, thanks for the info . The rear A arm bushings are the ones that need to be replaced both left and right . Just trying to keep the chassis relatively tight since this is a NASA car . Steve

Do these rear bushing wear to the point of contributing to the car "wandering"? When mine travels over changing road surfaces it will pull etc. It has been aligned a couple times. I am planning to replace the strut mounts on top, they seem a little notchy, but sounds like these bushings might be a good idea to replace also.

How can you tell if they are worn? Is there play in them?

.

I noticed that going into long sweepers at 115 + the car acted really spooky . I found that the rear bushing on the A-arms were cracked but still intact and the tire shoulders showed that a considerable amount of roll was happening on the street alignment . Short story, I replaced the bushings for about 52.00 per side . Since the car is down for engine work I can not give you any legit info yet . Wraith pointed me in the direction of just OEM replacement and not the 3sx poly solution for over 350.00 . Steve
