Question Slider bolt problems

I'm doing the painstaking job of removing all calipers to clean the sliding bolts and bores so that I can remove the wrong grease (used suspension grease) and apply the correct slider bolt grease instead. After I finished the 1st caliper at the front right I noticed the lil rubber piece at the end of 1 of the slider bolts is I guess widened too much to allow the bolt to slide in and out easily. How easily should this bolt slide in and out of this bore? I must apply FULL FORCE to even budge it 1mm downward into the bore. Do ya'll think the suspension grease swelled this rubber piece over time? I have not driven it but 5-10 TEST miles and noticed my brakes were sticking/heating up.

Do I even need this rubber piece at the end? What would happen if I removed it completely? It seems the brakes would slide a lot easier without this piece even being in there to begin with. Pictures attached:

Question Re: Slider bolt problems

Is why I need this bushing because it makes a suction which pushes the caliper back apart after the brakes are applied?

i dont see why they would go through the trouble of engineering that bolt with room for the rubber thing, along with the process of making the rubber and putting it on the bolt during assembly if it wasnt necessary. my $0.02

Hey Ryan. I agree. It just really bothers me that I can't get it to go in AT ALL and so if I did manage to get it in there it would move very very sluggishly if at all. I guess I just have to get it all lubed up well and try again at it.

I would say just make sure you have the slider bolt grease...i dont know if that green crap in the picture is the "old suspension grease" but you should definitely CAKE that slider bolt grease all around that bolt to the point where you know you cant put any more on. there should be an EXCESS of that stuff just all up inside that caliper body. other then that I don't know what else would be wrong.

I always use lithium grease. ( Don't know if I spelled that right ) Seems to do the trick.

I second the lithium greese, alway worked good for me. maybee double check make sure the grommet is seated correctly in the slidder's bore, but I think lube is the key the entire slidder must be lubed, install, then wipe off excess
