Default The JIC FTLA-2 Thread - Owners Come Hither

I'm looking for reviews / information / experiences regarding the JIC FTLA2 coilover. Specifically regarding the strut quality.

I have recently been made aware of some quality issues with the Subaru platform and wonder if anyone has seen anything like it on our cars.

Specifically, I Broke My JIC Not So Magic Strut - NASIOC

YouTube - Broken JIC Strut

Not to put a negative spin on the thread. Just would love it if anyone running these could speak up!

i have them. got them new from a member on the boards and have had them installed for almost a year. love them and have had no issues with them. i have put about 7k on them so far and have hit major bumps and other road hazards.

the subi may have had one that was defective. im guessing the strut broke on the spin out and if thats the case it was prob the effect of the sideways pressure of the spin out that did it.

expect dj4play to jump in with negitive input since they bash jic all the time

I bought 4 used ones from Alfred. He put about 10K miles on them, no issues (he thought). After we had cinched the deal he realized one had a slight oil leak. We renegotiated the selling price based on a quote from JIC to rebuild it for $150.

Philip had a set, wore them out (damping decreased he said), but I don't think he had any problems with them otherwise.

Thanks guys I saw both of your posts about them ... 3KGT2NV, your thread and Turbo Powered, your post where you bought them off Alfred.

I did see dj4play's posts before but from researching and reading Ralliart's posts too, they aren't rebadged Korean or Chinese stuff and really are quality Japanese coilovers.

On NASIOC, if you read that thread, the strut blowing out seems to not just be a one-time thing. Several people reported to have experienced the same issues. I am unsure of any design changes between our platform and theirs and thus was curious to see if we had anything similar ever happen.

What was the leak from? How do you like them?

Did Philip replace his set with something different?

Phil's running Ohlins now. Customized adapters that he should be bringing to the market so you can run Ohlins, Moton etc. Of course, the decent Ohlins and Moton options tend to run about $4k before the cost of the adapters.

he was holding the wheel smooth and there wasn't any traffic from the rear for him to be spinning out that violently. the strut caused the spin out, not the other way around.

You can hear the wheel assembly bang around before the spin...

weird failure mode, I'm guessing from the lookks of it the top mount seized and when he turned the wheel it twisted the shock body apart.

It looks to me like the weld or brazing fails. Fatigue or shock, or some combination, I don't know.

I've been running my JIC's on track since 2001. No issues so far, but I will inspect them soon in light of this thread.

I'm glad to hear that no 3/S's have had any similar issues.

I'm trying to research this but it seems, as far as I can tell, that the WRX & especially STi have major issues with their rear suspension - knuckles, endlinks, etc. I'm hoping that I can tie the JIC failure to that platform-specific issue but as of now I have no real clear evidence.
