Default Difference between Base and TT wheel fitment

Ok, I know that the brakes are larger on the TT than the base, and that is all correct? My question is, how much larger are they? I ask because I see a lot of rims that say that they fit Stealth Base, but they don't say anything about TT. I think some of them just don't want to deal with the possibility of them not fitting and having to deal with returns. Basically, if the TT calipers stick out 5mm (chose a random number) more than base then any rim that would fit a base would be guaranteed to fit TT with no more than a 5mm spacer.

If all else fails, I'll just be annoying and ask... Will these fit?

Size 18 x 8.5
Offset 35

They are Stern St-5. I read every post about the Stern St-1 that a lot of people have, some need small spacers and that would be ok. It looks to me like the st-5 spokes should be no closer to the caliper than the st-1 so it should be fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Since your Stealth is a 1st gen, the brakes are basically the same size as the non-turbo brakes, so you can use wheels that say they fit the non-turbos. Heck, I think you could even use the 15" wheels that came on the base Stealths. The only TT's that have to worry about wheels due to brake size are 2nd gens, because they do have larger brake calipers.

I thought the only difference between the 1st gen and 2nd gen brakes were the rear caliper, the knuckles that hold the calliper and rotor, and the rotors. I thought the front caliper for the 1st and 2nd gen was the same?

I asked the guy if they gave refunds on wheels that they said fit, if they didn't fit. He asked what car I had, and I told him I had a 91 Stealth RT (though I have a turbo). His response was:
"Yes They will fit great. Clear the brakes."

So, is fitment the same for 1st gen base and TT?

Yeah, 1st gen TT's can accept any size 3/S wheel, from any year. The brakes are smaller than the 2nd gen TT's, which don't accept very many rims. Finding rims for 2nd gen TT's can be hard.

What part on the 2nd gen brake system is different from the 1st gen besides the rotors?

Wrong!!!!!!!!! No the only difference between 1st gen and 2nd gen brakes are the rear. 1st gen have a huge 4 piston caliper like the 2nd gen but only have a 1 piston caliper in the rear the 2nd gen have 2 piston caliper in there rear.
Those wheels your oreder will most likely not fit with out spacers. I just put some rims on with spacers so they would clear the front caliper and the only thing you have worry about spacers is the wheels might stick out if you have a really thick spacers on.

no. he was right.

both first and second gen 3S have 4 piston calipers up front, but different size rotors. the first gen's rotor is smaller than the second's. therefore, any wheel that fits the second gen will fit the first but not vice versa.

I think it's a bit optimistic to say "any" non turbo aftermarket rim will fit a 1G TT...
