Default Bilsteins and stock bumpstops.

After some extensive searching, and reading Oohnoo's expertise on suspension, I just have one question left...

I just received my Bilsteins/Tein's and they are ready to go in. I know the internal bumpstops will be fine with the Teins but what do I do with the stock ones? Can I completely remove them or should I trim them?

Thanks

I'd trim them, as riding without them can be quite jarring on hard bumps where the shock bottoms itself out.

Also, bottoming out dampers can damage them.

thanks guys, but would it be damaging and jarring even with the internal bumpstops in place?

Not unless the bump stops are cracked and worn. They could give to the point where the damper bottoms out.

Huh. According the directions that come with the Teins, you trim 1-1/2 inches off the fronts, and nothing off the rears. Since the Bilsteins have internal bump stops, do you still need the front bump stops at all? What do the Bilstein install instructions say about the external bump stops on the strut you're rebuilding?

On the Bilsteins you do not reuse the stock bumpstops. You need to pull the housings off the bilsteins and trim them ones that are internal.
