what do you use to do your own alignments?
Kite string, jackstands, swivel plates, calipers, and a flat garage. The bubble meter for camber is nice too. That came from Longacre.

You probably were feeling the same thing. Turn in was super quick, but the car wanted to push as throttle was applied?

yup sounds like we were getting the same thing, I was thinking about trying a little less toe to see if I could find a happy balance

I don't think my garage is flat enough to do that I'll have to check

Someone needs to do a nice thorough website with step by step and pics for doing your own alignments. I've learned bits and pieces from SCE, but I still dont feel its enough.

Last time I was out, I think my settings were 0.5* neg rear camer, 1.5* neg front camber, (too much) toe out in the front, half to 1* toe in rear. I have Saner F/R swaybars, JIC struts set at max stiffness with stock springs. SCE caster/camber plates set for max caster and no real addition to camber. SFR LSD insert (makes a HUGE improvement in steering) and no strut tower braces. Before next season, I will have SCE adj front balljoints installed at max settings and SCE front splitter. Oh, and some race tires I hope. Street tires suxor.

Experimented with F=1.5-2.0 -ve and R=0-1.0 -ve and usually 0-1/16 toe-in R and 0-1/8 toe-out F.

Yeah, slight toe out in front does provide sharp turn-in. In myt setup with the AWS still intact, I can actually get progressive power induced oversteer as opposed to push/understeer. In a steady state corner, while adding throttle, the rear end will actually come out first so it can be used to adjust yaw angle. I prefer that to push, but I haven't quite managed to get it so that in a steady state turn, progressively adding throttle gets a completely neutral drift so I could control it solely with the steering. I'd like to be able to try that.

On a sidenote, with any toe out, the car gets skittish on straights and on the streets, it's a wandering fiend. Need a death grip on the wheel to keep the car straight.

Hey since this thread on alignment is going and you guys seem to know what you are talking about..... my car pulls to the right while driving so naturally I went to get an alignment. Well the mechanic told me that it can not be aligned because something (can't remember what since its been awhile) was worn out and that the only way to fix the alignment was to replace it. Any ideas??

I'll do a write up the next time I re-align the car. This is the same way I do it...

bump for an old thread

I've got some seat time with my car on the track now, my favorite setup so far has been:

-2* camber in front
zero toe in front

everything zeroed in the rear

the car feels VERY balanced, very easy to control over/under steer with the throttle, letting off gives a very gradual controlled oversteer, and it doesn't plow too hard on the throttle, if you lay into the throttle hard out of a corner it will kick out the back end, though it isn't anything too crazy or uncontrollable

I know it's kind of hard to tell what's going on but here is a video of this setup

Might have to try your camber settings when I get my front dampers replaced Tom, that or try -1.5 front -.75 rear. Anyone with Ksports zero out there camber plates, then adjust camber strictly up top afterwards?

bump

I've found my setup to be a little bit squirrelly on a roadcourse, it's great for autox and lower speed stuff though

next time I go out I'm going to add -1* of camber to the rear to help keep the ass end from sliding out on me
