You should buy a service manual on CD and diagnose the problem. Post a listing for the CD in the parts wanted area. I'm sure someone has one to sell.
Meanwhile you can open the fuse box near your air cleaner box and use a 10mm socket to pull the yellow fuse on the upper left corner. Do that and you will disable the ABS system completely. Do you hear a humming noise from the front right fender after you stop and shut off the engine? If so you have a bad ABS relay or a faulty modulator. That hum is of a high current motor and you need to disable the system to avoid draining your battery. Get the CD or a paper version of the service manual; it is worth every penny.

What's worse is that my mechanic can't diagnose it with his machine and even the local Dodge/Chrysler and Mitsu dealers are telling me they can't diagnose ABS issues with cars older than model year '99 - WTF?! Any advice?? Please help!

I have exactly the same issue and have had it basically since I bought the car. The light only comes up when the car starts moving. The ABS does not work at all.
I thought it might be just a dirty sensor, but usually with a dirty sensor the effects would be ABS would be turning on all the time, since the sensor would be communicating that you lost traction to the ECU. Right? My mechanic tried to clean it with air pressure a few years back and that has not helped. We never disassembled anything though, so it is possible we were not getting enough pressure on the sensor to clean it. What can we do? |

So it only happens while the car is moving? If you come up to to a stop sign or red light, the ABS light goes out?
Edit: reason for asking is the ABS system on most cars does a self-check the 1st time the car hits 10MPH to ensure the pump, sensors, etc are all talking. If the light comes on after that it indicates a component is toast or at least the computer isn't able to receive the input. Did anyone look at the link I posted and try what the article suggests? Had a 96 Taurus that had an ABS Light on. Turned out to be a bad ground to the computer itself so might wanna double check that as well.
