Kessel run in 12 parsecs
|
Saw Jess's ROTM and the 19" with it slammed make it look hot. However, I'm concerned that 19" won't be a wise choice. Any thoughts?
BTW, here is a link to her car in case you live in a cave: http://www.3si.org/wiki/index.php/Im...l1_resized.jpg

i love my 19's... i was iffy at first, but they grew on me.. it was kind of a forced upgrade because there was no 18's that tire rack had that i liked, so i went 19
![]() kind of a bad pic... but oh well my vote is go for 19!

For show, YES. For go, NO. If you don't really care for performance loss or added centrifugal force for the drivetrain, 19s are fine. It definitely brings out the sweetness of the ride. However, if you live in a town that has crappy roads, the ride will be VERY rough since the tires are very thin. Also, if you own an NA 3/S, it will drag the car down even more and make is ALOT slower off the line. The added thinness of the tires also puts quite a bit of stress on all the suspension components so go figure.....
I acutually owned those 19s in the first picture. Gewalt Evo IIs I think they are. I got rid of them. They are way to heavy and rides way to harsh. They do look good....just sitting there lol. ![]() ![]()

BTW, the rims in my second picture are 18x9.5 5Zigen FN01R-C. They do look significantly smaller compared to the Gewalt Evos in the first picture because the spokes on the Gewalts stretch all the way out to the lip of the rim, making the rim look very big.
The 18x9.5 FN01R-C I currently own are 20-22lbs each (rim only) The 19x9 Gewalts were 32-35lbs a piece I think (rim only) |

19s for me. If I lived up north or somewhere where there are crappy roads, I would stick with 18s.
I switched from 19" Moda R6s which are heavy and taking up space in my attic to the SSR wheels I have now. The 19" models I have weigh 22lbs which is lighter then many 18s available for our cars. I don't think you can fit really wide tires with taller wheels.

Going from 18s to 19s was no big difference, anyone who says the ride is shit just from going from one to the other is full of it. There are plenty of shitty roads where I live and going to 19s had such a small impact in ride quality, it was barelly noticable. What makes a car ride like shit is lowering springs, I have to be gentle on some roads with my intrax, yet filling the wheel gap and showing the 19s is worth it.

Well, I don't know then. I'm not exactly the expert but I've used 17s, 18s, and 19s for my 3/S so I'm just sharing my experience. The Ground Controls I had before did ride pretty shitty. Also, Gewalt Evos weren't all that great imo. The FN01R-C far surpasses them in terms of quality and weight. Also, even though some 19s may weigh lighter than 18s, the centrifugal force or whatever they call it is still greater than smaller diameter rims. At least that was what I was told.
I mean the JGTC uses 18x12 or something. Even the Lambo Murcielagos are using 18s. So it must mean something. But I say again, I'm no expert, making comments from personal experience. Anything bigger than 18s are primarily for show because it definitely looks better. |

I love my 19's. Tire selection isn't as good as with 18's, but they look much better. Handling is great and the backroads are a little rough with the KSport's. If you want a comfy ride, buy a Cadillac.
